Role: ServiceNow Developer - ServiceMapping/Discovery

Location: Remote

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Solution Architecture & Design

 

Define and own the end-to-end ITOM architecture with focus on Discovery and Service Mapping.

Design scalable solutions aligned with CSDM and ITIL best practices.

Establish patterns for CMDB class modeling, relationships, and dependencies.

Lead design workshops with stakeholders to translate business requirements into technical designs.

Develop architecture roadmaps for ITOM growth (Event Management, Orchestration, Cloud).

Implementation & Delivery

 

Lead the configuration and customization of Discovery schedules, probes, sensors, and patterns.

Architect Service Mapping solutions for business-critical applications.

Define and enforce standards for MID Server architecture, credential management, and network access.

Guide development teams in implementing integrations with monitoring, cloud, and infrastructure tools.

Ensure proper governance of CMDB population, normalization, and reconciliation.

Governance & Data Quality

 

Establish CMDB governance frameworks and data quality KPIs.

Define health scan policies, certification schedules, and CI lifecycle processes.

Partner with data owners to ensure ongoing accuracy of discovered and mapped services.

Collaboration & Leadership

 

Act as the trusted advisor for ITOM across IT leadership, platform teams, and business stakeholders.

Mentor technical consultants and discovery engineers in best practices.

Provide architectural oversight across all ITOM projects to ensure consistency.

Communicate complex technical concepts in business-friendly language for executives.

Continuous Improvement

 

Stay current with ServiceNow releases and emerging ITOM capabilities.

Recommend enhancements and automation opportunities for service visibility and operational efficiency.

Promote continuous service improvement (CSI) in IT operations.

Required Skills & Qualifications

 

10+ years of IT experience, with 5+ years in ServiceNow ITOM (Discovery, Service Mapping).

Strong expertise in:

Discovery probes/sensors, patterns, credentials, MID Servers.

Service Mapping design and implementation (manual and pattern-based).

CMDB design, CSDM alignment, and governance frameworks.

Experience with integration of ServiceNow with monitoring/cloud tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Splunk, AppDynamics, AWS, Azure, VMware).

Strong understanding of network protocols, infrastructure, and application architectures.

Hands-on experience with Glide scripting, Flow Designer, and IntegrationHub.

Excellent leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.

Preferred Certifications

 

ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Discovery

ServiceNow Certified Implementation Specialist – Service Mapping

ServiceNow Certified System Administrator (CSA)

ITIL v4 Foundation

TOGAF or other enterprise architecture certification (advantage)
