JOB TITLE: Diagnostic Tool and Lab Technician

REPORTS TO: Department Manager

JOB TYPE: Full-Time

DAYS/HOURS: Monday Friday. Standard business hours. Weekends possible, as needed.

LOCATION: 2831 Research Drive, Rochester Hills, MI 48309

This position is an onsite position.

What does the Diagnostic Tool and Lab Technician do?
The Diagnostic Tool and Lab Technician plays a crucial role in ensuring the functionality and reliability of automotive electrical systems and components. This position involves overseeing the electrical wiring of automotive bucks and an associated automated test system, ensuring all wiring schematics and connectors meet rigorous standards. The technician will utilize diagnostic tools to validate wiring integrity and troubleshoot any issues that arise.

What you will be doing:

  • Electrical wiring of automotive bucks (Electronic Control Units and associated sensors) using available wiring documentation.
  • Verification and validation of automotive electrical wiring of components and panels.
  • Utilization of automotive diagnostic tools and software to ensure accurate functionality of wiring systems.
  • Provide technical support to engineering teams and troubleshoot complex wiring issues.
  • Maintenance and administration of complex automated test system infrastructure and wiring.
  • Creation of automated software tests using open-source scripting languages (e.g. GEB)

What makes you qualified:

  • Previous experience wiring automotive electronic components and automotive system architecture.
  • Knowledge of automotive diagnostic tools.
  • Basic understanding of vehicle diagnostics, protocols, and wiring schematics.
  • Adaptable to fast-paced work environment and willingness to learn new skills as needed.
  • Preferred Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Automotive Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications, with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with project management and issue tracking tools such as Jira.

  • Physical demands: Non-strenuous with low risk; primarily sedentary with some walking, standing, and carrying of light objects; Adequately lighted, ventilated and climate-controlled area where normal precautions must be observed
  • Work environment: Work is generally performed within a normal office environment using standard office equipment; Moderate noise typical of a business office; Travel for company business may be required to attend off-site meetings, etc; May require early morning, night and weekend work assignments; Interaction with contracted providers, staff and vendors by phone and face-to-face will be constant and may be disruptive: Work may be stressful at times.
