Position Summary:

The Payroll Analyst plays a critical role in supporting the Payroll Department within a large, complex, and unionized healthcare system. This position is responsible for conducting payroll audits, processing garnishments, reconciling payroll data, managing payroll tax files, and troubleshooting payroll issues to ensure accurate and timely employee compensation. The ideal candidate has experience with Workday Payroll collective bargaining agreements, and healthcare workforce complexities.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist with end-to-end payroll processing and post-payroll audits to ensure accuracy, timeliness, and compliance with internal policies and external regulations.
  • Support the preparation, validation, and submission of payroll tax files and quarterly/year-end tax reporting.
  • Process wage garnishments, levies, and other withholdings in compliance with federal, state, and local regulations.
  • Collaborate with HR, Benefits, and Finance teams to research and resolve payroll-related inquiries and discrepancies.
  • Analyze and audit Workday Payroll transactions for data integrity, proper costing, and union contract compliance.
  • Identify system or process inefficiencies and recommend improvements to streamline payroll operations.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of payroll processes, audit procedures, and compliance activities.
  • Stay current with federal, state, and local wage and hour laws, tax regulations, and union agreements affecting payroll.

Experience:

  • Minimum of 3+ years payroll experience in a large, complex organization, preferably within a unionized healthcare setting.
  • Prior experience with Workday Payroll is required.
  • Strong understanding of payroll taxes, garnishment laws, and wage/hour regulations.

Skills & Competencies:

  • High attention to detail and strong analytical/problem-solving abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and other data reconciliation tools.
  • Experience interpreting and applying collective bargaining agreements to payroll processes.
