Hardware Validation Eng (Automotive - SPI, I2C, UART, CAN) _ 3+ yrs exp _ Onsite @ Palo Alto CA
We are seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Electrical Test & Validation Engineer to collaborate with cross-functional hardware and software teams in the development and validation of Electronic Control Units (ECUs). This role is critical in planning, executing, and improving testing processes to ensure the highest levels of product reliability, performance, and customer satisfaction.
Key Responsibilities
- Collaborate closely with hardware and software design teams to plan, execute, and optimize durability, electrical, and functional validation testing for ECUs.
- Develop comprehensive test plans, scripts, cases, and fixtures across all phases of product validation.
- Establish requirements traceability using tools such as JIRA and JAMA, and maintain robust version control practices.
- Design and review functional, environmental, and electrical test strategies, ensuring full coverage of product specifications.
- Participate in key design assessments including Bill of Design (BoD), Component Technical Specification (CTS), DFMEA, PFMEA, DVP&R, and CTR.
- Apply strong working knowledge of analog circuit design, power supply systems (buck converters, LDOs), and low-speed communication protocols (SPI, I2C, UART, CAN).
- Conduct root cause analysis of test failures through structured data analytics and failure reproduction techniques.
- Provide detailed test data analysis and reporting to drive product design improvements and corrective actions.
- Create, manage, and enhance technical documentation such as BoD, BoM, DFMEA templates, lessons learned databases, and process trackers.
- Identify and mitigate project risks that could impact timelines, quality, or customer deliverables.
- Continuously contribute to the improvement of product safety, performance, and customer satisfaction metrics.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a closely related field.
- 3+ years of hands-on experience in automotive, aerospace, or defense product testing.
- 3+ years of experience in electronics product design, development, and validation.
- Strong experience with laboratory testing, including bench-level setups, thermal chambers, vibration tables, electrical characterization, and EMC compliance.
- Expertise in interpreting and analyzing technical specifications, electrical schematics, and mechanical drawings.
- Working knowledge of ISO/IEC 17025 standards for testing laboratories.
- Proficiency with automotive communication systems such as CAN and CAN-FD.
- Hands-on experience with requirement management and traceability tools (e.g., JIRA, JAMA).
- Programming and scripting experience with LabView, TestStand, and CAPL (preferred).
