Job Details

Role: Linux Engineer

Location: Pittsburgh, PA (Remote)

Type: Contarct

Key Responsibilities:

  • Work directly with the application teams to capture requirements and provide infrastructure solutions.
  • Build, configure, and provision Linux servers based on project needs.
  • Support and execute server migrations, ensuring minimal downtime and disruption.
  • Apply and manage security policies, system hardening, and patch updates.
  • Monitor system performance and proactively address potential issues.
  • Identify, diagnose, and resolve complex technical problems independently.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of server builds, configurations, and migration procedures.
  • Participate in daily standups and provide regular updates on task progress.

Required Skills & Experience

  • Linux Systems Administration 4 5 years' Hands-on experience with managing and troubleshooting Linux servers (Red Hat, CentOS, Ubuntu).
  • Server Build & Configuration 3 4 years Proven experience in provisioning, configuring, and optimizing physical or virtual Linux servers.
  • Server Migration 2+ years' Experience supporting or executing server migration initiatives using scripts or tools (e.g., rsync, SCP, Ansible).
  • Security & Hardening 2 3 years Working knowledge of implementing Linux security practices (SELinux, firewalls, audit logs, patching).
  • Shell Scripting 2+ years' Experience with automation and scripting using Bash, Python, or other scripting languages.
  • Monitoring & Troubleshooting 3+ years Strong diagnostic skills using tools like top, ps, netstat, journalctl, systemctl, etc.
  • Collaboration Experience working in a cross-functional environment with application and infrastructure teams.
  • Documentation Ability to clearly document processes, runbooks, and architecture changes.

Preferred Skills

  • Experience with automation tools like Ansible, Puppet, or Chef
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and hybrid infrastructure environments
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and infrastructure as code practices
  • Familiarity with virtualization technologies (VMware, KVM)

Education

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
  • Linux certification (e.g., RHCSA, RHCE, or CompTIA Linux+) is a plus.
