Battery Failure Analysis and Battery Material Engineer
Location: Cupertino, CA
Job Description: The Failure Analysis Lab in Cupertino is seeking an individual to focus on CT and Failure analysis of Apple batteries. The candidate will be required to learn to operate 3D X-ray machines as well as perform various battery FA techniques including material deep-dive analysis. All necessary training in X-ray data collection and processing will be provided by the CT Team, no prior X-ray experience is is required, but some familiarity is preferred.
Scope
- Use lab-based nano- and micro-focus CT techniques
- CT data collection and analysis
- Electrical and electrochemical testing and failure mode triage of commercial batteries
- Battery teardown
- Battery electrode analysis using optical, electron and X-ray microscopy
- Work with cross-functional partners to drive root-cause analysis and material development projects
Education:
Associate s or Bachelor s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Energy System Engineering, Materials Science, Physics or related field; OR equivalent
- Maintain a strong attention to detail - Manage multiple projects at once
- Familiar with Failure Analysis techniques such as Optical Microscopy, X-ray/CT, XRD, SEM, EDS, FIB, FTIR, GCMS etc
