Position Overview:
NETS is currently seeking a dedicated Horizontal Directional Drilling Operator to join our team. The Directional Drilling Operator/Locator will play a key role in setting up and completing underground drilling operations, including conduit installation for fiber optics and other utilities. This position will involve working closely with Outside Plant Supervisors, Locators, and Laborers to complete various tasks related to horizontal directional drilling projects.
Responsibilities:
Operate Horizontal Directional Drill (HDD) for installation of underground conduit
and fiber optic cables.
Assist in potholing, remediation, and setting hand holes for conduit installation.
Drive equipment to job sites and set up necessary tools, including the drill, water
tanks, and grounding equipment.
Confirm drill path with the Locator/Lead and ensure accurate execution.
Monitor and communicate the location of the drill head with the Locator/Lead.
Oversee and assist with the installation of pulling gear and product during the drilling
process.
Reverse the drilling process to install the conduit and fiber.
Supervise laborers and crew members, ensuring efficient time usage and quality
work.
Perform post-job quality checks and document completion.
Regularly check fluid levels, inspect vehicles and equipment for safety, and conduct
required maintenance.
Communicate with the supervisor to submit necessary reports (e.g., bore log, vehicle
maintenance).
Follow company policies, job specifications, and safety protocols at all times.
Ensure the safety of the public and other underground facilities during drilling
activities.
Complete the installation of coax and fiber systems in collaboration with the Locator.
Job Requirements:
3+ years of demonstrated experience in Horizontal Directional Drilling.
Strong knowledge of underground utility installation, safety protocols, and drilling
equipment.
Familiarity with DOT regulations regarding vehicle and operator qualifications.
Proven experience with Vermeer or Ditchwitch HDD drills.
Ability to read and understand project diagrams, maps, and drawings.
Valid Class A CDL with a clean driving record.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Ability to work in urban environments and on long-term projects.
Qualifications for Locator Role:
2+ years of experience in utility directional drilling in urban settings.
Knowledge of utility locate processes and the ability to coordinate with the drilling
team for successful installations.
Ability to transport heavy equipment to job sites.
Ensure accurate and safe drilling operations in coordination with the HDD Operator.
Job Type: Full-time
Willingness to Travel: 75% (Preferred)
