RESPONSIBILITIES:
Kforce has a client in Houston, TX that is seeking a Technical Writer with a strong technical background-ideally someone who has previously worked in or closely with software development teams. In this role, the Technical Writer will be responsible for producing high-quality technical documentation that supports our engineering and software teams. This includes release notes, installation guides, API documentation, and scripting references.
Key Responsibilities:
* Interpret complex technical information and translate it into clear, concise, user-friendly documentation
* Ensure documentation aligns with company standards and customer needs
* Organize and publish content to internal and external platforms
* Work across teams to gather requirements, verify technical accuracy, and incorporate feedback
* Participate in content strategy, documentation planning, and version control processes
Collaborate with engineering and development teams to create and maintain:
* Release notes
* Installation and configuration instructions
* API and XML documentation
* JavaScript and scripting reference guides
REQUIREMENTS:
* 5-7 years of experience in technical writing (7-10 years preferred)
* Previous experience in a software development or adjacent technical role
* Proven experience creating engineering-level technical documentation
* Strong understanding of APIs, scripting languages (e.g., JavaScript), and XML
* Ability to quickly grasp complex technical concepts and make them easily understandable
* Familiarity with publishing tools and version control systems (e.g., Git, Confluence, Markdown, etc.)
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills
* Maritime industry experience is a plus
The pay range is the lowest to highest compensation we reasonably in good faith believe we would pay at posting for this role. We may ultimately pay more or less than this range. Employee pay is based on factors like relevant education, qualifications, certifications, experience, skills, seniority, location, performance, union contract and business needs. This range may be modified in the future.
We offer comprehensive benefits including medical/dental/vision insurance, HSA, FSA, 401(k), and life, disability & ADD insurance to eligible employees. Salaried personnel receive paid time off. Hourly employees are not eligible for paid time off unless required by law. Hourly employees on a Service Contract Act project are eligible for paid sick leave.
Note: Pay is not considered compensation until it is earned, vested and determinable. The amount and availability of any compensation remains in Kforce's sole discretion unless and until paid and may be modified in its discretion consistent with the law.
