Sr Planning Engineer -

Applies advanced engineering and network planning principles, theories, concepts and technologies to develop solutions for unusually complex problems and develop growth strategies. Primary focus is providing OSP strategies for efficient capacity consumption and route planning to support market growth and network facility consolidation. This position supports strategic market level planning with the purpose of eliminating network inefficiencies and optimizing network assets while ensuring longevity and overall health of markets in support of organic growth. Facilitation of cross-functional plans and strategies to ensure alignment across all partners of the business.

Regarded as a subject matter expert and may act as a technical project leader or provide work leadership for other team members. Excludes those with full supervisory responsibilities.

The Main Responsibilities

• Leads the development, evaluation, cost estimation and implementation of new and innovative principles, processes and applications, specifically for OSP/ISP construction and reconfigurations
• Leads Lumen partnered vendors to support audit, engineering, investigation and implementation
• Exercises considerable latitude in decision-making under limited consultative direction toward predetermined long-range targets.
• Analyzes complex local and wide area network systems and/or customer network environment, including planning, designing, evaluating, selecting operating systems and protocol suites and configuring communication media with concentrators, bridges and other devices.
• Acts as primary consultant to leadership detailing the technical requirements and specifications necessary to obtain solutions.
• Requires limited direction and guidance with most tasks.
• Possesses specific SME level knowledgebase/skillset in one or more network layers and supports peers as SME
• Provides support of peers in specialized skill and/or supports OSP long range strategic planning for team.
• Supports collaborative decision making for network architecture, site level strategic planning with market/region ownership
• Project/Program management experience to be applied as a support for program
• Supports and leads various reporting and automation initiatives
• Applies business analytic skills to justify strategic decisions and must articulate to upper level management
• Possesses excellent written and verbal communications skills as well as organizational skills
• Capacity planning / Capacity design at the DS1 level and the sonet level.
• Consolidation of networks within a given facility.

What We Look For in a Candidate (What are the required qualifications - must haves and what are the preferred qualifications - nice to haves)

• Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience.
• 8+ years related experience in OSP Network Planning, engineering, construction, cost estimation and budget development.
• KPI reporting and executive level readout experience
• Leadership experience.
