Job Details

Job Title: Plastics Process Engineer

Job Summary:
This role is responsible for developing and optimizing molding processes to meet product and material requirements. The ideal candidate will work cross-functionally to improve manufacturing methods, ensure product quality, support continuous improvement initiatives, and enhance overall production efficiency.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and refine molding processes by researching product/material needs, designing and testing manufacturing methods and materials (including molds, equipment, and resins).

  • Collaborate with material vendors and engineering teams as needed.

  • Conduct Design of Experiments (DOE) to evaluate and enhance manufacturing processes, utilizing knowledge of design, tooling, fabrication, and materials.

  • Create and maintain Process Sheets and other technical documentation.

  • Partner with engineering to drive improvements in efficiency, quality, and customer satisfaction on the production floor.

  • Lead and participate in cost-reduction and continuous improvement projects.

  • Collaborate with quality teams to implement both short- and long-term corrective actions.

  • Provide training and guidance to Process Technicians for daily tasks and improvement initiatives.

  • Report any food safety, quality, or food defense concerns to appropriate personnel.

  • Stay current in technical knowledge by attending workshops, reviewing industry publications, and engaging in professional networks.

  • Adhere to all documented Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), safety policies, and company procedures.


Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in Engineering (Plastics Engineering preferred).

  • Minimum of 4 years of experience in a Plastics Process Engineering role.

  • Strong background in DOE methodologies, testing, and process validation.

  • Hands-on experience with automated manufacturing equipment and molding machines.

  • Proficient in setting up and troubleshooting molding systems, material feed systems, and auxiliary equipment.

  • Strong technical writing and documentation skills.

  • Familiarity with mold design, construction, and performance optimization.

  • Preferred experience with:

    • High-cavitation, high-volume injection molding.

    • Flexible film packaging and pouch forming/sealing equipment.

    • ERP systems and Microsoft Excel.

    • Quality standards such as BRC, ISO, and SQF.

    • Lean Manufacturing principles.

Physical Requirements:

  • Exposure to loud noise levels; hearing protection may be required.
