Job Description:
We are seeking an experienced Mainframe Operator to support critical IT infrastructure operations and incident management activities. The ideal candidate will have strong technical awareness, attention to detail, and excellent communication skills to collaborate with IT staff, vendors, and stakeholders. This role requires onsite presence and may involve working on holidays or variable shifts (days, afternoons, or midnights).
Key Responsibilities:
Function as a Level 1 Incident Manager for critical technology-related incidents and events.
Quickly create, escalate, triage, and track customer technology incidents to resolution.
Communicate effectively with internal teams, customers, and external vendors to ensure smooth incident response.
Utilize graphical monitoring systems to track infrastructure availability, connectivity, and service status.
Monitor mainframe control consoles and periodically review system performance metrics.
Assist in the review and validation of mainframe job control language (JCL) as needed.
Perform assigned deliveries and handle physical equipment as required (must be able to lift up to 50 lbs).
Maintain operational readiness of the environment through proactive monitoring and reporting.
Technical Environment & Tools:
Primary Systems: IBM Mainframe
Monitoring Tools: What s Up Gold, Pingdom, PRTG
Collaboration Platform: Microsoft Teams (minimum 5 years of experience required)
Requirements:
Proven experience working in a mainframe operations or data center environment.
Minimum 5 years of experience with Microsoft Teams in a technical or operational capacity.
Strong understanding of IT incident management processes.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to work onsite and handle rotating shifts, including holidays and overnights.
Physical capability to lift up to 50 pounds as required for operational duties.
