Employer: The Leland Stanford Jr University
Position Title: Senior Systems Administrator
Position Description: Responsible for the virtual desktop infrastructure (VDI) service and all technology related to this offering, including but not limited to support of the underlining VSphere infrastructure and underlining operating system language, network, storage and view administrator. Design, develop, install, and maintain operating systems, utilities, and applications software on computing systems. Architect, implement and maintain virtual infrastructure solutions based on VMware (VMVDI Technologies, VMware ESX Technology). Perform day-to-day administration, operation, and support of University IT Virtual Desktop Infrastructure including installing, configuring, and maintaining all physical servers, storage and networking, knowledge of working in complex data center and independent computing facilities. Troubleshoot, diagnose and resolve PC, Thin/Zero-client, Virtual Desktop and Mac hardware and software problems, including OS, network connectivity, file sharing, printing, and basic application functions. Resolve system emergencies with significant impact on the integrity of user data and systems. Design, configure, implement, and maintain system security strategies, policies, and procedures. Establish software/hardware standards and systems policies and procedures for business continuation and disaster recovery plan. Engage in long-term strategic planning with regard to systems development and integration. Conceptualize and implement systems within broad technical or structural frameworks. Perform capacity planning for system configuration, software services, network services, load distribution, and service interrelationships among computer systems. Act as a technical expert or lead for local computer system administration. Act as project leader on large-scale computing projects in which strong technical, directional, and personal leadership is necessary; assign and oversee the work of other system administrators as needed. Work with vendors to ensure cost-effective hardware and software maintenance agreements with vendors. Work with Windows server technology Microsoft Active Directory, BigFix, Microsoft SCCM and PowerShell.
May telecommute within area of intended employment at employer's discretion and be available for in office meetings as needed.
Requirements: Bachelor's degree in computer science, computer science engineering or related field and five years of progressive post-baccalaureate experience as a computer programmer, systems administrator, or related occupation in systems administration.
Must possess five years of experience in:
VMware virtualization technology, VMware Horizon View, vSphere infrastructure.
Installing, configuring, and maintaining a stable physical and virtualized environment of medium to high scale number of systems.
Complex multi-system platforms and vendors.
Coordinating multi-system and computing environments in independent computing facilities.
Developing/implementing a business continuation and disaster recovery plan.
Program in multiple programming languages in multiple operating systems.
Also requires knowledge in each of the following:
VMware VDI Technologies including Horizon View.
VMware ESX Technology.
Windows server technology.
Microsoft Active Directory, BigFix, Microsoft SCCM and PowerShell.
The expected pay range for this position is $148,162 to $168,602 per annum. Stanford University provides pay ranges representing its good faith estimate of what the university reasonably expects to pay for a position. The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate,
departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
