SALARY RANGE: $100,000 to $129,924

Job Summary

Plays a primary role in the Avangrid Distribution Automation Project. Serves as responsible and single point of contact for all technical matters of the Distribution Automation project and leads the coordination with other technical groups/organizations involved in the project. Coordinates with manufacturers, communications, and SCADA. Ensures work is completed in accordance with internal and industry standards following approved policies, procedures, safety rules, budgets and in a manner that promotes customer satisfaction. Provides training as needed. Provides training and field support as needed.

Key Responsibilities
  • Development of technical processes and procedures applicable to the Automation Project. Ensure efficient and secure information sharing is accomplished and procedures are streamlined to gain maximum efficiencies. (30%)
  • USA representative in Automation global group meetings. (10%)
  • Collaboration or Development of technical standards in conjunction with the Distribution Standards group. (5%)
  • Coordinate technical needs of all groups involved in the Automation Project. (5%)
  • Planning, project completion and oversight of technical initiatives within the Automation Project coverage. (5%)
  • Responsible for maintenance, update, and renewal of materials framework agreements. (10%)
  • Single point of contact with distribution automation equipment manufacturers for technical matters. (10%)
  • Responsible for ensuring the installation of automation devices is executed as scheduled and the devices operate as intended from a technical point of view. Provides technical support to Electric Operations personnel including device programming, installation, and troubleshooting. (10%)
  • Ensures work is designed in accordance with internal and industry standards following approved policies, procedures, safety rules, budgets and in a manner that promotes customer satisfaction. (10%)
  • Support on SAP tasks. (5%)
  • Financial Responsibility
    • Manage Spending: $500,000
    • Approximate Budget Responsibility: $10,000,000
    • Develop Budget: $500,000
  • For Lead Engineers:
    • Utilize knowledge to influence and guide department engineers.
    • Provide technical leadership in complex projects that have a wide impact on the department
    • Mentor, develop and support team in technical skills
    • Ability to collaborate across departments
    • Liaison/ direct contractors on company policy, standards, and best practices
    • Work independently with little supervision

Required Qualifications
  • Education & Experience Required:
    • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering with a minimum of 7+ years relevant experience.
  • Technical Skills/Competencies:
    • Theoretical Engineering knowledge - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Analytic, modeling & Calculation, understanding the business model; Global View of the Business (Values cross-functional collaboration, understands importance of growing knowledge and developing relationships and links across the organization)
    • Practical engineering experience/application - Planning, Operations and Engineering Design, Construction, (e.g., field experience, standardization "Perform economic analyses of engineering alternatives, develop business cases and defend in front of stakeholders.")
    • Engineering documentation # Ability to adequately document and interpret engineering documentation
    • Ability to review and approve engineering work done by others to ensure compliance with company standards, specifications, and contract requirements
    • Knowledge of Regulatory and Compliance Environment # Local, State and Federal Regulatory Standards and requirements
    • Networking, Computer Security, and Databases - Understanding Networking, security, computer hardware, software applications, database structure, and data communication equipment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Developing Distribution and/or Automation standards.
  • Setting calculations and SCADA mapping creation.
  • Working knowledge of the SEL, Beckwith and Schneider configuring tools.
  • Integration of IEDs in SCADA.
  • Distribution equipment testing, commissioning and field troubleshooting.
  • Framework agreements (RFP creation, ITEO, contract negotiation).
  • Leading/participation in multidisciplinary and/or international working groups.
  • SAP Materials management module.
