General Atomics Electromagnetic Systems (GA-EMS) designs and manufactures first-of-a-kind electromagnetic and electric power generation systems. GA-EMS' expanding portfolio of specialized products and integrated system solutions support critical fleet, space systems and satellites, missile defense, power and energy, and process and monitoring applications for defense, industrial, and commercial customers worldwide.

We are currently hiring a Senior FPGA Electrical Design Engineer for the GA-EMS Radar Technologies Directorate. In this capacity, the Senior FPGA Electrical Design Engineer will be responsible for working with the hardware design team to design custom hardware solutions for a variety of radar applications and architect and develop the corresponding firmware solutions. The Senior FPGA Electrical Design Engineer will report to the Senior Manager of Software Engineering within the Radar Technologies Directorate.
This is a hybrid role that requires an in-office presence based on project needs, including lab integration and in-person collaboration meetings.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBLITIES:
  • Generate electrical controls and embedded systems architecture solutions for new project needs, perform engineering analyses for systems and circuits, document findings, communicate results to engineering and program management staff, give technical presentations.
  • Develop FPGA designs for Xilinx products. Implement using VHDL for the following types of applications: Radio Frequency (RF) DSP, controls, data links, embedded processing and processor interfaces.
  • Evaluate the integration of the engineering solutions within the overall engineering environment and ensure that appropriate documentation, testing, maintenance, and engineering updates are completed.
  • Collaborate as a member of a multi-disciplinary scrum team on the architecture, development and integration of a variety hardware designs.
  • Represent company at technical reviews, meetings and formal design reviews.

Job Qualifications

  • Typically requires a bachelors degree, masters degree or PhD in engineering or a related technical discipline from an accredited institution and progressive engineering experience as follows; twelve or more years of experience with a bachelors degree, ten or more years of experience with a masters degree, or seven or more years with a PhD. May substitute equivalent engineering experience in lieu of education
  • Embedded systems development (processor, microcontroller, FPGA, and MPSoC); mixed-signal circuit design (analog/digital); analysis, design, and implementation of hardware systems to include digital, analog and RF is required.
  • Experience with Xilinx Vivado Design Suite
  • Desired experience: bare-metal C-code programming and development using petalinux.
  • Experience designing with RFSoC, DDC, NOC, FFT, and beamforming architectures.
  • Experience using high-speed and low-speed interfaces such as 1/10/100 GbE, DDR3/4, JESD204B/C, SPI, I2C and UART.
  • Experience with FPGA Simulation and Troubleshooting.
  • Demonstrates a detailed and extensive technical expertise and application of engineering principles, concepts, theory, and practice with the ability to organize, plan, schedule, conduct, and coordinate workloads to meet established deadlines or milestones with some experience in project leadership.
  • Must possess the ability to understand new concepts quickly and apply them accurately throughout a fast-paced, R&D environment.
  • Must have strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills to effectively interface with other departments, customers, government representatives, and/or professionals.
  • Must be customer focused and able to work on a self- initiated basis or in a team environment.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance required.
