As a Software Engineer II at Microsoft, you'll be part of a team of world-class engineers leveraging cutting-edge Microsoft Cloud and AI technologies to deliver modern, scalable, and intelligent systems that drive the Microsoft business forward. In these roles, you will also leverage data engineering capabilities.

Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, deploy, and operate scalable cloud-based data, analytics, automation and tooling solutions using modern data platforms and Cloud services.
  • Integrate AI capabilities such as Azure OpenAI, Cognitive Services, and ML (machine learning) models to enhance system intelligence and user productivity.
  • Apply engineering top industry practices as you design and deliver high-quality, scalable solutions. Own your solution end-to-end through design, implementation, and operations.
  • Implement robust monitoring, logging, and alerting for proactive issue detection. Leverage telemetry and usage analytics to understand customer behavior and inform product decisions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally across stakeholders, product managers, and other engineers to deliver integrated, customer-focused experiences.
  • Contribute to the evolution of Microsoft's data platforms through technical feedback and innovation.
  • Additional areas may include:
    • ETL Pipelines: building and managing ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) pipelines.
    • Data Visualization: Represent key data insights visually to provide meaningful information to end-users.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python OR equivalent experience.
  • Programming skills in one or more languages: C#, Java, Python, JavaScript, or C++.
  • 2+ years of experience with any of the following: SQL Server, Synapse, Azure Data Lake, Azure Data Factory, Databricks or similar technologies.
Additional or Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 2+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 4+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
    • OR equivalent experience.
  • Exposure to Microsoft Azure or other cloud platforms (Google Cloud Platform, AWS).
  • Familiarity with AI/ML fundamentals, tools (like Azure ML, OpenAI), or data analytics workflows.
  • Understanding of version control systems (e.g., Git) and DevOps and CI/CD practices.
  • Cloud Native Architecture, with solid understanding of cost management, Scalability and observability.
  • Curiosity, collaboration mindset, and a passion for solving real-world customer problems.
Software Engineering IC3 - The typical base pay range for this role across the U.S. is USD $100,600 - $199,000 per year. There is a different range applicable to specific work locations, within the San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area, and the base pay range for this role in those locations is USD $131,400 - $215,400 per year.
