Position: Senior Engineering PM

12 Month Contract w/ Potential to Extend

Location: Remote

The Senior Planning Engineer is a strategic technical leader responsible for designing, augmenting, and optimizing infrastructure circuits across advanced network. This role blends deep engineering expertise with project leadership, cross-functional collaboration, and a forward-looking approach to network transformation. The engineer will work across IP Planning, Architecture, Operations, Field Engineering, and other internal teams to ensure scalable, cost-effective, and high-performance network solutions.

Key Responsibilities

Infrastructure & Network Engineering
  • Build, test, disconnect, and migrate infrastructure circuits across multiple platforms and Autonomous Systems using CCNA-level skills.
  • Plan and implement DWDM networks, including interpreting fiber characterization results (OTDR, CD, PMD).
  • Draft and execute Method of Procedure (MOP) documents for circuit augments, disconnects, hot-cuts, and grooms.
  • Troubleshoot router and switch circuits using OSI or DoD models.
  • Automate repetitive processes, configurations, and reporting.

Planning & Strategy
  • Define and implement market-level strategies for short-term capacity needs and long-term technology transformation (3-5 years).
  • Analyze network capacity trends and recommend optimization strategies.
  • Initiate and manage projects using the most feasible, practical, and economical methods.
  • Prepare plans and specifications, including field data collection and cost analysis for capital planning.

Project Leadership & Collaboration
  • Coordinate IPNOC calendar with Global Change Request (GCR) submissions.
  • Lead and participate in stakeholder conference calls and cross-functional team meetings.
  • Support teams in Transport, Core Wave, Field Operations, Custom Networks, and A&E.
  • Oversee installation, construction, and testing of plant facilities.

Documentation & Tools
  • Document Network Readiness Testing (NRT) platforms, devices, and processes.
  • Use geospatial tools (ArcGIS/PRO, AutoCAD, Google Earth) for design and analysis.
  • Maintain clear records and notes to optimize efficiency and productivity.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree with 6+ years of experience or Master's degree with 4+ years.
  • 1-5 years of experience in routing & switching (Enterprise or ISP).
  • 4+ years of ISP/OSP experience with in-depth knowledge of equipment and designs.
  • Proficiency in DWDM network design and fiber testing.
  • Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite and project management tools.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple projects under tight deadlines.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's in Business, Computer Science, or Engineering.
  • PMI Project Management certification.
  • Lean/Six Sigma belt certification.
  • Experience with cost-saving initiatives and capital budgeting.
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities.
  • Collaborative mindset and proactive approach to network improvements.
