Description
Project/Team Overview
We are building a next-generation retail edge platform that connects thousands of stores with cloud services - powering low-latency order orchestration, data synchronization, and in-store applications across a distributed ecosystem. As a Lead Engineer, you will serve as a key technical leader responsible for architecting, implementing, and guiding the evolution of our platform infrastructure and services across cloud (AWS) and edge compute environments. You'll work hands-on with engineers while setting the technical direction, promoting secure and scalable design practices, and ensuring operational excellence across all components - from microservices to edge clusters. This role combines deep technical expertise, system-level thinking, and mentorship to help scale a high-performing engineering organization and deliver business-critical outcomes.
Responsibilities
Technical Leadership & Architecture
Architect, design, and implement scalable, secure, and compliant platform services across AWS and distributed edge environments.
Define technical roadmaps and system boundaries, ensuring reliability, resilience, and cost-efficiency across thousands of store nodes.
Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable insights for executive, business, and cross-functional audiences.
Lead architectural reviews, enforce best practices, and champion standards for security, observability, and maintainability.
Partner with product and platform teams to ensure technical alignment with business and operational goals.
Hands-On Engineering
Design and develop backend services, infrastructure tooling, and automation frameworks primarily in Go (Golang).
Build and evolve cloud-native microservices on AWS using ECS/EKS, EC2, S3, RDS, IAM, and CloudFormation/Terraform.
Implement Kubernetes-based orchestration and deployment pipelines optimized for edge and cloud environments.
Establish robust observability and tracing frameworks (OTEL, Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog) for proactive detection and insights.
Conduct code reviews, debugging, and performance analysis, driving continuous improvement in code quality and stability.
Security, Compliance & Reliability
Ensure adherence to secure coding practices, encryption standards, and IAM principles.
Collaborate with security teams to implement vulnerability management, incident response, and compliance controls.
Apply DevSecOps and GitOps principles to automate and govern deployments.
Skills
golang, kubernetes, aws services
Additional Skills & Qualifications
Required Skills & Experience
Expert level proficiency in Golang for backend and infrastructure tooling
Deep experience with AWS services - EC2, ECS/EKS, S3, IAM, RDS, CloudFormation/Terraform, Secrets Manager, and Security Hub.
Strong hands-on knowledge of Kubernetes, including cluster lifecycle, deployments, and service management.
Proficient with logging, metrics, and tracing using Datadog, OpenTelemetry, Prometheus, and Grafana.
Understanding of VPC design, load balancing, DNS, API gateways, and service meshes (e.g., Istio or Linkerd).
Working knowledge of IAM, encryption, secure API design, vulnerability scanning, and compliance frameworks.
Experience with GitOps pipelines, Infrastructure as Code (IaC), and automated build/deploy workflows (e.g., ArgoCD, Jenkins, GitHub Actions).
Leadership & Collaboration: 7-10 years of professional software development and infrastructure experience, with 2-3 years in technical leadership or lead engineer capacity.
Preferred/Nice to Have Skills & Experience
Experience building or operating edge compute or retail store platforms (POS, kiosks, or IoT).
Familiarity with NATS, Kafka, or Ditto for real-time messaging and synchronization.
Exposure to multi-region architectures, cost optimization, and distributed data design.
Experience with SpectroCloud, ArgoCD, or K3s-based edge deployments.
C# experience will be a plus (legacy code is written in .NET)
