Role: Data Governance Manager

Location: Chicago, IL

Job Description:

This position will focus on establishing and ensuring adherence to an enterprise data governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices to achieve required level of data quality. This role will be critical in the support of the evolution of our Enterprise Information Management team. Ultimately responsible for supporting the delivery of data governance to projects and initiatives within client along with supporting ongoing data domain cross functional working groups. This is an excellent opportunity to be part of our evolving data governance team, developing our data governance strategy and road maps, implementing new data governance programs, and solving business critical problems, while gaining exposure to a variety of business units within the company.

Responsibilities:

  • Roll out an enterprise-wide data governance framework, with a focus on improvement of data quality through modifications to organization behavior policies and standards, principles, governance metrics, processes, and related tools to ensure the organizations data is appropriate, accurate, secure, and reliable.
  • Establish and govern an enterprise data governance implementation roadmap
  • Leading, managing, and developing a collaborative culture of data governance analyst that deliver data governance within projects and initiatives at Beam Suntory.
  • Ensure clear accountability for stewardship of the company s principal data assets.
  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements.
  • Promote and educate business units about the Program, its activities, and benefits.
  • Develop, review and monitor DG metrics to assess performance and effectiveness of the Program.
  • Establish and ensure adherence through auditing to the enterprise information governance framework for data policies, standards, and practices to achieve the required level of data protection and availability of data to meet overall business needs.
  • Continuous improvement of the data governance methodology learning project to project
  • Working in partnership with Information Security & Enterprise Architecture to develop a robust data governance framework and ways of working
  • Supporting data domain working groups to understand the processes being impacted, assuring documentation of data dictionaries, data lineage and identifying gaps in the process, etc.
  • Data governance is a cross-functional effort, and the Data Governance Manager will need to work closely with a variety of stakeholders to be successful.

Requirements / Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree required.
  • Proven experience (5-8 years) in data governance, management, or a similar role, preferably in a leadership capacity
  • Solid understanding and experience in data governance, data stewardship, data analysis preferably with experience CPG organization with large-scale data or project management and data oversight experience
  • Experience managing a team of data governance professionals, including setting goals, providing feedback, and ensuring high-quality work output along with the ability to empower and inspire a team
  • Strong project management skills, including the ability to develop and execute project plans, manage timelines and budgets, and communicate effectively with stakeholders.
  • In-depth knowledge of data governance principles and best practices, including data quality, metadata management, data classification, and data lineage
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to implement data governance initiatives, including collaborating with business stakeholders, IT teams, and data owners.
  • Experience implementing data governance programs and knowledge of applicable standard methodologies, concepts, best practices, and procedures.
  • Experience with change management, a plus.
  • A detailed understanding and hands on experience preferred implementing data governance tools such as Informatica, Collibra, etc.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills
  • A certain degree of creativity and latitude is required as well as flexibility in job role and working hours during critical deliveries.
  • A natural sense of urgency, initiative, and a positive team player philosophy to be reflected in daily work ethics.
  • Demonstrable ability to influence stakeholders and gain acceptance from others, driving for consensus and change.
  • Ability to work well in a matrix environment.
  • Knowledge of Data Quality, Metadata, Lineage and MDM
  • Travel to other Global sites approximately 15% of the time.
