Lead Flight Controls Software Engineer - Systems

Boeing is seeking an experienced and dedicated Lead Flight Controls Software Engineer to lead our engineering team in the critical mission of developing and certifying safe, reliable, and innovative aircraft. This role is essential for ensuring that supplier-developed software for the critical flight controls system is architected, implemented, verified, and updated to maintain the highest standards of safety and reliability. This position will focus on supporting the Boeing Commercial Airlines (BCA) business organization at our Everett, WA site.

As a Lead Flight Controls Software Engineer at Boeing, you will work on some of the most complex and highly integrated functions and features on commercial airplanes. In this role, you will oversee the development of new software and updates in collaboration with suppliers and internal Boeing organizations. You will ensure compliance with industry standards, Boeing requirements, and FAA regulatory certification by applying guidelines from RTCA's DO-178B/C, DO-330, DO-331, and DO-332 to software development projects. Your responsibilities will also include conducting documentation reviews, which encompass requirements, design, test, SQA plans, test automation, and problem reports. Furthermore, you will be responsible for leading, mentoring, and developing a team of junior engineers while interfacing with senior software certification personnel and regulators.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Leads software project management and software supplier management activities, ensuring compliance with industry standards and FAA regulations.
  • Leads review of product and process for alignment with project plans and industry standards by tracking and evaluation of internal team and supplier performance
  • Apply guidelines from RTCA's DO-178B/C, DO-330, DO-331, and DO-332 to software development projects.
  • Lead reviews of supplier software lifecycle data, including requirements, design, test, and software quality assurance plans.
  • Establish and maintain relationships with suppliers and supply chain personnel.
  • Evaluate technical and schedule risks and assist suppliers in implementing risk mitigation plans.
  • Monitor team progress, adjust priorities, and support resolution of production and in-service issues.
  • Lead the development of team members' technical and certification knowledge through mentoring and onboarding processes.
  • Promote continuous process improvement and provide technical leadership for software projects.

Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/ Experience):

  • 10+ years of experience in systems engineering, systems integration, and/or software engineering
  • 5 years of experience in RTCA DO-178(B/C) Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification.

Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):

  • Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
  • 15+ years' experience in software engineering
  • 10+ years of experience in RTCA DO-178(B/C) Software Considerations in Airborne Systems and Equipment Certification.
  • Experience with Level A Software and interfacing with external suppliers.
  • Experience working with leadership, peers, and internal and external customers to understand and drive requirements
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work in a dynamic team environment.
