About the Role
The Risk Engineering team is part of the Uber Core Services organization. Our team is responsible for Risk decisions, fraud and abuse detection and prevention, Risk management decisions for tens of billions of USDs' of transactions on the Uber platform, and the number is growing rapidly.
We build cutting edge real-time fraud detection and prevention systems that scale to millions of users leveraging large scale data, distributed systems, and advanced machine learning technologies.
The candidate will lead the problem identification and formulation, software design and architecture, and guide cross-functional product and engineering teams to deliver high impact technology solutions to address complex problems in risk and fraud domains.
The candidate will foresee architectural problems and opportunities within the organization and lead the technical direction for long term system architecture betterment and modernization.
What the Candidate Will Need / Bonus Points
\\-\\-\\-\\- What the Candidate Will Do ----
1. Design and develop scalable solutions to address fraud and abuse problems as well as drive better user experiences across Uber Products and Lines of Businesses
2. Work with cross functional teams (Product Managers, Data Scientists/Analysts, Program engineers, Machine Learning Engineers) to identify any product/functionality gaps, define the problem space, contribute to product requirements, design and develop system solutions.
3. Contribute to longer term technical roadmap and drive overall system architecture betterment for Risk product Engineering. Identify systemic opportunities and preempting architectural risks before these become bottlenecks.
4. Provide thought leadership including challenge the status quo when needed.
5. Mentor, coach, and multiply: proactively mentor senior engineers and influence teams across the broader Risk
6. Be an owner and strive for excellence in your role
\\-\\-\\-\\- Basic Qualifications ----
1. Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical discipline (or equivalent experience) w/ 10+ years experience.
2. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Taking on challenge problems and driving solutions.
3. Capable of creating structure and driving progress in an ambiguous environment
4. Demonstrated ability to contribute to long term technical vision, to scope, create and successfully deploy new technical strategies / initiatives / capabilities.
5. Deep technical expertise and proven technical leadership/technical influence across wide organization
6. Team player with good communication skills.

1. Previous experience with Risk, Fraud Detection
2. Experiences with Applied Machine Learning
3. Experience to interact with cross-functional teams from multiple geo-locations
For Sunnyvale, CA-based roles: The base salary range for this role is USD$257,000 per year - USD$285,500 per year.
