Work Arrangement:
Hybrid: This role is categorized as hybrid. This means the successful candidate is expected to report to Milford, MI, or Warren, MI three times per week, at minimum.
The Role:
As an Environmental Durability Electrical Component Subject Matter Expert, you will serve as a technical authority within GM's Electrical Engineering team. You'll lead the development and validation of electrical components for environmental durability, supporting both emerging and current vehicle programs-including work related to 16V, 48V systems, and SDV2.0 readiness. Your work will directly influence the integrity, performance, and lifecycle reliability of GM's global vehicle platforms.
In this role, you'll work independently and cross-functionally, applying advanced knowledge of environmental durability to shape component requirements, ensure compliance to global standards (such as GMW3172), and drive continuous improvement efforts in support of both internal and external customers.

- Serve as the primary technical lead for environmental durability of electrical components, supporting vehicle programs across GMNA, GMTCI, and advanced technology groups (e.g., fuel cell programs).
- Lead the maintenance and development of environmental durability specifications (e.g., GMW3172), including future-proofing for new voltage systems (16V, 48V) and software-defined vehicle architecture (SDV2.0).
- Collaborate with engineering teams, validation teams, and suppliers to ensure test methods, component designs, and integration meet or exceed GM's durability requirements.
- Proactively identify gaps and lead resolution of durability-related issues in both development and current production.
- Provide technical mentorship and guidance to junior engineers and cross-functional partners.
- Represent GM as a subject matter expert in internal forums, global working groups, and external industry panels when required.
Additional Job Description
Your Skills & Abilities (Required Qualifications):
- Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant engineering experience in electrical component validation, systems integration, or environmental durability.
- Deep working knowledge of environmental validation methods, materials behavior under stress (vibration, corrosion, temperature), and global durability standards (e.g., GMW3172).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data and make sound engineering decisions.
- Proven ability to work independently with minimal direction, while also collaborating effectively across global, cross-functional teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to influence others and explain technical topics to non-technical stakeholders.
What Will Give You a Competitive Edge (Preferred Qualifications):
- Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
- Prior experience supporting advanced vehicle technologies such as software-defined vehicles (SDV) or fuel cell propulsion systems.
- Familiarity with systems engineering tools, design validation planning, and DFMEA processes.
- Experience updating and maintaining corporate technical specifications or standards.
