Description

SAIC is seeking a Senior Linux System Administrator for on-site support of the Advanced Scientific and Engineering Computer Center (ASECC.) in Newport, RI. This person is responsible for providing day-to-day operational and maintenance support of the ASECC at Naval Undersea Warfare Center Division Newport (NUWCDIVNPT). Performing various system administration duties in a large Windows and Linux environment. Assist in implementing, supporting, and troubleshooting Linux issues relating to performance and compliance and security hardening.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for assigned projects and tasking associated with the operation, maintenance, and upgrade of the ASECC.
  • Assists in researching and providing recommendations for long term planning for the ASECC and associated hardware and software products.
  • Supports NUWC's Service/Agency Approval Authority for the DoD High Performance Computing.
  • Experience with machine learning environments including repository setup and configuration to support an expanding role in this field from a systems administration point of view.
  • Proactively replaces / upgrades ASECC hardware and software applications as directed by the government manager.
  • Monitors network security trends and emerging concerns and work with management to address risks.
  • Monitor ASECC operations and equipment and provide recommendations for improvements as warranted.
  • Reviews vendor-issued security releases and identify remedial steps. Implement changes as approved by the government manager.
  • Detailed knowledge of Linux and Windows security hardening principles and practices.
  • Provides contact and problem resolution for users with hardware, software and applications problems;
  • Acts as subject matter expert on implementing and supporting Linux in an enterprise and R&D Lab environment.
  • Provides PC computer compliance and technical support for Linux, software and peripherals and support maintenance of internal custom applications.
  • Routine hardware set up, troubleshooting and replacement; software installation and evaluation; and use of various. spreadsheet, word processing and database application programs.
  • Routine research and implementation of compliance solutions in strict accordance with established guidelines.
  • Contribute to technical Support documentation of resolutions, processes, and procedures.

Qualifications

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree and five (5) years or more experience.
  • 5+ years of implementing and supporting Red Hat or similar distributions of Linux.
  • 5+ years' experience working in a high performance computer facility with demonstrated ability to manage, operate, maintain, troubleshoot, and test complex computer hardware and software systems.
  • Knowledge and experience with high performance computing needs of NUWC's Science and Technology community.
  • Experience with scripting languages and automation techniques including Bash and Python.
  • Experience with job scheduling systems, PBS experience a plus.
  • Familiarity with licensing managers such as FlexLM and LMX.
  • Candidate must be certified (CompTIA Security+ CE or Network+ CE and Linux certification).
  • Able and willing to learn new as well as existing technologies.
  • Be a contributing member of a Technical Team.
  • Excellent communication skills required.
  • Position requires U.S. Citizenship.
  • Ability to obtain a security clearance with the US government; active SECRET security clearance preferred.
  • Military or government experience preferred but not necessary.
