Title: Sr. Database Administrator
Location: Atlanta, GA Need Locals
Duration: 12-months+
Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced Sr. Database Administrator with at least 8 years of experience working with zDB2, IMS DB/DC, and/or ADABAS on the z/OS mainframe platform. The ideal candidate will possess advanced expertise in mainframe database administration, performance optimization, disaster recovery, and emerging technologies to support business initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Database Administration & Maintenance
- Manage and maintain IBM DB2 databases on the z/OS mainframe platform.
- Create and manage database objects (tables, indexes, table spaces).
- Perform data loading, unloading, and reorganization using DB2 utilities.
- Implement and maintain backup and recovery strategies to ensure data integrity.
Performance Monitoring & Optimization
- Monitor system performance and troubleshoot bottlenecks.
- Conduct database tuning to optimize query execution and system efficiency.
- Use RUNSTATS and other tools to maintain accurate database statistics.
Collaboration & Consultation
- Partner with application teams on database design, schema changes, and technology roadmaps.
- Serve as a subject matter expert for database technologies and enhancements.
- Provide guidance on new tools and emerging database solutions.
Software & System Management
- Lead installation, upgrades, and maintenance of mainframe database software.
- Manage service levels, including change, incident, and problem management.
- Oversee work with external vendor teams during software conversions and updates.
- Proactively monitor databases for high availability and resiliency.
Risk Management & Compliance
- Identify potential risks and implement mitigation strategies.
- Participate in SOX and other audit activities to ensure regulatory compliance.
Disaster Recovery & Business Continuity
- Support disaster recovery planning and execution for mainframe database systems.
Technology Strategy
- Stay current on advancements in database technologies and plan for deprecation of outdated features.
Required Qualifications
- 8+ years of experience with zDB2, IMS DB/DC, and/or ADABAS.
- Expertise in IBM DB2 administration on z/OS mainframe platforms.
- Strong knowledge of SQL, DB2 partitioning, indexing, data sharing, and performance tuning.
- Experience with replication software (e.g., IBM InfoSphere Data Replication Suite IIDR).
- Familiarity with zConnect Enterprise Edition (zCEE) API framework.
- Proficiency in JCL and mainframe OS concepts.
- Strong troubleshooting and problem-resolution skills.
- Experience with database backup/recovery and disaster recovery planning.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in service-level management, change management, and incident resolution.
- Familiarity with IBM DB2, IMS DB/DC, and ADABAS database products.
- Experience working with external vendors and managing software upgrades.
- Relevant DB2 or database-related certifications.
Education
- Bachelor s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field (or equivalent experience).
Work Environment
- Full-time role with on-call responsibilities.
- Collaboration with internal teams and external vendors to ensure database system availability and performance.
