Job Description
The NYC Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) enriches the environment and protects public health for all New Yorkers by providing 1.1 billion gallons of high-quality drinking water, managing wastewater and stormwater, and reducing air, noise, and hazardous materials pollution. DEP is the largest combined municipal water and wastewater utility in the country, with nearly 6,000 employees. DEP's water supply system is comprised of 19 reservoirs and 3 controlled lakes throughout the system's 2,000 square mile watershed that extends 125 miles north and west of the city.
The Business Information Technology (BIT) is responsible for the daily management and maintenance of the local and wide area network infrastructure, voice and data communications, client server environments, database services, Internet and Internet services, agency-wide technical support, distributed applications support, Geographic Information System (GIS), data center management, information and cyber security, applications development, guiding and supporting supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) systems, and e-mail services. The Office implements new technologies and is focused on ensuring that these technologies meet the current and future business needs of the agency, its bureaus, and customers.
BIT is seeking a dedicated and ambitious Cybersecurity Intern who is eager to learn about information security and cybersecurity practices. The intern will work closely with our cybersecurity team to assist in identifying and mitigating cybersecurity risks.
As a DEP BIT Cybersecurity Intern, you'll immerse yourself in exciting projects and gain hands-on experience, including:
Threat Emulation: Analyzing Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) to simulate potential cyberattacks.
Network Traffic Analysis: Monitoring and analyzing data flows to identify anomalies and security risks.
SOC Alerts: Investigating security alerts from the Security Operations Center.
Security Assessments: Conducting evaluations for network, web, and mobile applications.
Source Code Reviews: Analyzing application code to identify vulnerabilities.

Qualifications
Candidates must be currently enrolled in a graduate degree program in an accredited college, university or law school.
