Job Description:

Apex Systems is hiring a Packaging Engineer with our client who serves a wide range of industries, including healthcare, environmental services, food and beverage, and material science. They operate within the life sciences and laboratory equipment industry. This role with be an 18 month contract.

Pay Rate is $55.00/hour to $65.00/hour

Project Overview:

Our Client is addressing challenges with the shipment of a flexible containment solution for medical vaccines. This solution involves a liner placed in a stainless steel vessel with a mixer (propeller) to grow cells for vaccine production. The primary issue is damage during the packaging and shipping process, particularly holes in the shipment ranging from 50ML to 5000L tanks. The project aims to requalify shipping components and improve packaging to prevent damage.

Responsibilities:
  • Conduct root cause analysis and remediate failure nodes.
  • Update FMEA protocols and design improvements.
  • Write protocols, conduct testing, and perform root cause analysis.
  • Conduct risk analysis and provide recommendations on design improvements.
  • Perform ISG1 vibration tests using in-house vibration table.
  • Work on prototype stage and pre-prototype improvements.

Required Skills and Technologies:
  • Proficiency in root cause analysis.
  • Experience with ArtiosCAD, SolidWorks, and TOPS (software for packaging design, pallet layout, and cargo load optimization).
  • Ability to read engineering drawings.
  • Knowledge of forming, sealing processes, and tooling design for flexible film materials.
  • Understanding of manufacturing processes.
  • Knowledge of transportation modalities.
  • Experience with packaging, particularly for medical devices.
  • Understanding of vibration and shock absorption materials.
  • Bachelors degree in engineering (certifications not required).

Preferred Skills and Technologies:
  • Additional experience with SolidWorks.
  • Background in the medical industry, which is highly transferable to this work.
