Job Details

Overview

The Test Equipment Development group provides engineering support for the test programs supporting non-nuclear ships systems (mechanical and fluids) and portions of the steam plant systems. This group provides support for VIRGINIA Class submarine new construction (including VIRGINIA Payload Module (VPM) & Subsea and Seabed Warfare (SSW)) and all overhaul and repair projects.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
  • Work with design and materials group to develop (or revise existing) engineered drawings that meet test procedure or ship's system requirements. Drawing development may require interface with system engineers, EB trades, vendors, purchasing, program office, and ship's management.
  • Design and/or aid in the procurement of temporary support systems to provide temporary services to ship's systems.
  • Perform engineering calculations involving pressure, flow, and stress analysis for various temporary fluid systems and fixtures. Mathcad and other software are used to aid in analysis.
  • Develop a high level understanding of all shipboard systems in order to provide engineering support during all phases of construction.
  • Provide technical guidance and urgent deck plate support to the shipyard test organization for resolving test issues in Groton and Quonset Point (QP) facilities
  • Create vendor requisitions (VREQs) and provide dispositions for vendor information requests(VIRs) for material pertaining to drawings under the groups cognizant.
  • Occasional extended hours and weekends may be required to support emergent work.
  • Occasional travel to (QP) and other facilities may be required to support air flask testing and other test evolutions.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or higher or related technical degree
  • 8+ years of postgraduate engineering experience
  • DOD Security Clearance: Secret
  • GD&T - ASME Y14.5 knowledge
  • Prior background in Test Systems Engineering
  • Knowledge of Temporary Systems that support Reactor Plant systems
  • Prior knowledge of HM&E systems

Preferred:
  • General familiarity with submarine design with an emphasis on non-nuclear ships systems (HM&E piping systems).
  • Experience using and navigating in Teamcenter. NX, Ansys, Mathcad

Skills

  • Applicant must possess strong interpersonal, organizational, and written and oral communication skills.
  • The ideal candidate must be highly motivated and perform independently from the core organization while handling several different tasks.
  • This position requires the candidate to work with multiple EB design engineering and waterfront engineering organizations and must have good interpersonal skills and attention to details.
