What You'll Contribute

The candidate will be part of a 24x7 IT operational support team responsible for supporting Non-Production and Production DB environments inclusive of SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL and AWS RDS. The Senior DBA , working with a manager and support team, will share responsibility for all aspects of database administration including configuration, patching, tuning, upgrade roadmaps, architecture, security, performance, disaster recovery, troubleshooting and change management. This role will take an active part in building relationships with Dev Ops and Cyber Security teams as well as other key Infrastructure and Operations personnel to help form a holistic approach to database support.

What You'll Do
  • Database Administration
    • Ensures database environments are highly available and fully operational.
    • Ensures databases adhere to strict IT governance controls.
    • Develops automated monitoring controls to communicate database issues to team members.
    • Monitors and troubleshoots database performance.
    • Monitors backups and restore databases when necessary.
    • Works closely with IT teams to improve coding efficiencies and perform change management functions.
    • Creates and patch databases and instances.
    • Designs database architecture solutions.
  • Additional Responsibilities
    • Learns new database technology platforms and their features.
    • Participates in periodic Disaster Recovery testing.
    • Participates in App Dev projects.
    • Mentors Junior DBAs and host knowledge sharing meetings with DBA team members.
    • Attends trainings and conferences.

What You Have

Minimum Education, Skills and Experience Required
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • AWS Cloud, and Database Migration Service (DMS) experience
  • 5 years of experience in an IT environment with exposure to SQL Server database technologies.
  • 2-4 years of previous AWS Cloud automation development experience with databases; in scripting such as Python, PowerShell, Linux Shell Scripting, and Automation using tools like Ansible.
  • 2 years of Project Management experience
  • Oracle, Postgres, and DynamoDB databases
  • AWS RDS and Scripting
  • Solid background in database high availability technologies such as SQL Always On Availability Groups.
  • Strong leadership qualities and strategic skills.
  • Prioritization and time management skills. Ability to execute tasks in a high-pressure environment is crucial.
  • Ability to communicate comfortably to a wide range of technical folks inclusive of middle and upper management.

  • Windows Server OS Experience
  • MS Office applications experience
  • AWS native technologies
  • ITIL processes
  • Working knowledge of tiered application architecture with use of Web, Middleware and database


Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
  • Bachelor's degree in IT related field
