Role: Senior Network Engineer
Location: Pasadena, CA (3 Days Onsite in a week)
Contract Position
SUMMARY:
Seeking a Senior Network Engineer to lead the design, implementation, and administration of secure, high-performing wired and wireless networks, fiberoptic infrastructure, and cloud connectivity across the City. This position plays a key role in supporting over 2,000 City employees and mission-critical systems that serve both staff and the public. The ideal candidate will have advanced technical expertise in network architecture, cloud solutions, and infrastructure modernization.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Lead the design, deployment, and optimization of enterprise-level network infrastructure, including routers, switches, firewalls, wireless access points, and fiberoptic systems
2. Serve as network architect, developing strategic plans for system performance, capacity, security, and lifecycle management
3. Administer and troubleshoot complex multi-site wired and wireless networks, ensuring optimal performance, reliability, and disaster recovery readiness
4. Evaluate and implement cloud-based and hybrid networking solutions to support City operations and remote access
5. Monitor and secure network infrastructure using intrusion detection systems, firewalls, and access controls
6. Lead infrastructure projects such as Wi-Fi expansion in public parks, fiber connectivity for traffic signal networks, and integration with cloud service providers
7. Collaborate with IT leadership to ensure interoperability, reliability, and supportability of infrastructure across all City departments
8. Provide technical leadership, mentoring, and third-tier support to IT team members and serve as a key escalation resource
9. Maintain up-to-date documentation, security standards, and reference tools for ongoing infrastructure support
EXPERIENCE, QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS:
1. Advanced expertise in designing and administering enterprise wired and wireless networks
2. Strong hands-on experience with network hardware, routing protocols, and firewall management
3. Proficient in network security best practices, intrusion detection, VPN, RBAC, and access control systems
4. Demonstrated experience leading large-scale infrastructure projects, including fiber optic and cloud connectivity
5. Familiarity with cloud services and hybrid cloud environments (Azure, AWS preferred)
6. Excellent problem-solving and troubleshooting skills in multi-segment, high-availability environments
7. Ability to guide and mentor IT staff while managing complex, cross-functional initiatives
WORK-FROM-HOME ACCOMMODATIONS:
The City operates on a 9/80 work schedule with alternating Fridays off. This position qualifies for the Hybrid Work Program, allowing remote work two days per week. The employee must remain available and responsive within 15 minutes via Microsoft Teams during designated work hours.
OTHER:
The assignment is temporary and will last 3 to 6 months.
The final billable pay rate will depend on the candidate s experience.
