Summary

THIS IS A NATIONAL GUARD TITLE 32 EXCEPTED SERVICE POSITION.

This National Guard position is for a IT SPECIALIST (CUSTSPT) (TITLE 32), Position Description Number NGD2526P02 and is part of the TN ARMY National Guard.

This vacancy is covered by Association of Civilian Technicians (ACT), Chapter 103 (Volunteer Chapter).

Duties

Help

As an IT SPECIALIST (CUSTOMER SUPPORT) (Military), GS-2210-09, you will be under close supervision, receive detailed assistance, guidance and support from supervisors and co-workers as required, until statutory and performance requirements for advancement to the next higher level are met. You will address problems; install, configure, troubleshoot, and provide maintenance and training in response to customer requirements or inquiries (e.g., tiered-level customer support); provide support and guidance on installing, and operating personal computers, peripheral equipment, and associated software; receives request for resolution of hardware or software problems that may require in-depth research; update hardware and software architecture databases to reflect installations, turn-ins, and changes in reportable software.

As an IT SPECIALIST (CUSTOMER SUPPORT) (Military), GS-2210-11, you will address problems; install, configure, troubleshoot, and provide maintenance and training in response to customer requirements or inquiries (e.g., tiered-level customer support); provide support and guidance on installing, and operating personal computers, peripheral equipment, and associated software; receive requests for resolution of hardware or software problems that may require in-depth research; update hardware and software architecture databases to reflect installations, turn-ins, and changes in reportable software; perform other duties as assigned.

  • This is a dual status technician position. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. If you are not sure you are eligible for military membership, please contact a National Guard recruiter prior to applying for this position.
  • This is an excepted service position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the employing state's National Guard, required prior to the effective date of placement.
  • Selectee will be required to wear the military uniform.
  • Acceptance of an excepted service position constitutes concurrence with these requirements as a condition of employment.
  • Applicants who are not currently a member of the National Guard must be eligible for immediate membership and employment in the National Guard in the military grade listed in this announcement.
  • Males born after 31 December 1959 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • May be required to successfully complete a probationary period.
  • Participation in direct deposit is mandatory.
  • Must obtain and maintain a minimum of SECRET clearance within one year of appointment. However, TOP SECRET (TS) security clearance with eligibility for access to Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) may be required.
  • This position is covered by the Domestic Violence Misdemeanor Amendment (30 Sep 96) of the Gun Control Act (Lautenberg Amendment) of 1968. An individual convicted of a qualifying crime of domestic violence may not perform the duties of this position.
  • May be required to travel to and from offsite worksite(s) from the normal work area to perform assigned duties. Due to distances involved, travel may involve one or more overnight stays.
  • The employee may be required to travel in military and/or commercial vehicles to perform temporary duty assignments.
  • For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
  • Incumbent must complete appropriate training and obtain required certifications IAW DoDI 8140or DOD 8570.01M or applicable governing document(s) for Cyber workforce as an IA Technician Level II within 9 months of employment.
  • Irregular and/or overtime (compensatory) hours may be required to support operational requirements or contingencies or may be required to work hours outside of the normal duty day.
  • Position is designated as OM-STS-001 within the Defense Cybersecurity Workforce as guided by NIST SP 800-181, National Initiative for Cybersecurity Education, Cybersecurity Workforce Framework.
  • Acceptance of a Federal position may terminate Tricare Reserve Select eligibility.

Qualifications

Military Grades: E-4 through CW2

GS-2210-09:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE - Must have experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process; experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - Must have 1-year specialized IT-related experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, or 24 months specialized experience, education, or training receiving, maintaining, and issuing data storage media for computer operations; experience in scheduling the use of computer time for program processing; experience collecting and sequentially staging input media with associated program instructions for processing; experience in at least one programming language; experience translating detailed logical steps developed by others into language codes that computers accept where this required understanding of procedures and limitations appropriate to use of a programming language; experience interviewing subject-matter personnel to get facts regarding work processes and synthesizing the resulting data into charts showing information flow; experience in analysis of the interrelationship of pertinent components of the system; experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment; experience scheduling the sequence of programs to be processed by computers where alternatives had to be weighed with a view to production efficiency.

- Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

- Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving.

GS-2210-11:

GENERAL EXPERIENCE - Must you have experience, education or training that has provided a basic knowledge of data processing functions and general management principles that enabled the applicant to understand the stages required to automate a work process; experience may have been gained in work such as computer operator or assistant, computer sales representative, program analyst, or other positions that required the use or adaptation of computer programs and systems.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE - Must have 1-year specialized IT-related experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade, or 36 months specialized experience, education, or training that approaches techniques and requirements appropriate to an assigned computer applications area or computer specialty area in an organization; experience planning the sequence of actions necessary to accomplish the assignment where this entailed coordination with others outside the organizational unit and development of project controls; experience that required adaptations of guidelines or precedents to meet the needs of the assignment; experience preparing documentation on cost/benefit studies where is involved summarizing the material and organizing it in a logical fashion.

- Experience must be IT related; the experience may be demonstrated by paid or unpaid experience and/or completion of specific, intensive training (for example, IT certification), as appropriate.

- Must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the following four competencies: Attention to Detail, Customer Service, Oral Communication, Problem Solving.

Education

Education Requirement: None

If you are using Education alone to qualify for this position, the following requirements must be met:

All academic degrees and coursework MUST be from accredited or pre-accredited institutions.

Undergraduate or Graduate Education: Degree in computer science, engineering, information science, information systems management, mathematics, operations research, statistics, or technology management or degree that provided a minimum of 24 semester hours in one or more of the fields identified above and required the development or adaptation of applications, systems or networks.

GS-2210-09: Master's degree or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a master's degreeor equivalent graduate degree.

GS-2210-11: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
