It is not a DevOps role. Apps - team puts in production are apps security focused, familiar IS, Software compensation analysis. That is the space they support.
Their team supports the app security space. Individual understands that space. Also not required but helpful if understand some basics of software development methodology. CICD environment, use Jenkins here and Some understanding how that works and how it can interact outside the build . Understand continue deployment- use Ansible. Understand those system integrating. Not a release engineer type person, someone who can integrate systems not just create a Jenkins profile. Us for Monitoring? Splunk/Dynatrace- all apps are based on Splunk, then team writes reports and triggers.
Tool standpoint- understanding the platform , not a system administrator team. They can t go in and update things on the OS. That patching is done for them. Use Red Hat. Operate on those platforms. All apps are on premise, nothing in the cloud. Server windows 2016-2022 shop- have Red Hat from 08 and above. Development side for Java/.NET- nice to have, product of many mergers and acquisitions, one of the things that has been helpful and had training and operations, were a landing spot for developers into security. Most developers had full stack abilities, plus familiar with security operations because were on Remediation side. These people had a good understanding how tools functioned in the business. Not a development shop, frequently write integrations and facilitate a workflow to make it work with an entitlement program. If there is a person like above, it would be a bonus! A lot of their apps their configurations are stored in SQL, be able to make Comparisons and updates. End up scripting- using PowerShell scripts thru a vendor API. No optimization.
