Title: Senior Network Engineer
Location: Mechanicsville, VA 23116
Duration: 8+ Month Contract

Client is seeking an experienced Senior Network Engineer to implement and support the agency s IT network infrastructure. This role involves hands-on work with network components, documentation, analysis, troubleshooting, and collaboration with internal teams to maintain optimal network performance and reliability.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement, configure, upgrade, and troubleshoot enterprise routers, switches, VPN concentrators, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers.
  • Perform day-to-day support and documentation of client s network infrastructure.
  • Diagnose network issues using diagnostic tools, line monitors, and test equipment.
  • Collaborate with IT suppliers and stakeholders to ensure accurate and up-to-date configurations.
  • Support network troubleshooting and issue resolution to maintain uptime and application performance.
  • Assist in network infrastructure upgrades and installations across agency facilities.
  • Work closely with cloud and DevSecOps teams to optimize hybrid connectivity and SD-WAN
  • Create and maintain documentation, network topology diagrams, IP schemes, firewall rules, and access controls.
  • Work independently on assigned projects and initiatives.
  • Maintain an active industry-standard networking certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA-Junos, etc.).

Required Skills & Qualifications:

  • 8+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise routers, switches, VPNs, firewalls, wireless access points, and load balancers.
  • Proven experience designing, installing, and troubleshooting LAN and WAN enterprise networks.
  • In-depth network engineering and design
  • Strong understanding of network security, architecture standards, and compliance monitoring.
  • Expertise in building scalable, fault-tolerant network architectures.
  • Experience in performance tuning, system monitoring, metrics collection, and disaster recovery.
  • Proficiency in creating network diagrams using tools like Visio.
  • Advanced knowledge of networking protocols and features including ARP, CDP, EIGRP, OSPF, BGP, VTP, EtherChannel, 802.1Q trunking, HSRP, QoS, multicast, IPsec, RADITACACS+, SNMP, BRI/PRI, MPLS.
  • Active network certification (e.g., Cisco CCNA, Juniper JNCIA-Junos).

Preferred Skills:

  • 3+ years of experience with SD-WAN
  • 3+ years of experience working with cloud networking and hybrid network topologies.
