Overview:

Client is seeking an experienced and motivated OpenShift/Kubernetes Engineer to join our high-performing container platform team. In this role, you will be instrumental in managing, automating, and optimizing our OpenShift/Kubernetes environments, while evaluating emerging technologies to support future growth and innovation.

You will work alongside other senior engineers and technical leaders to shape and support M&T s containerization strategy. The ideal candidate brings deep knowledge of container orchestration platforms, strong scripting and automation experience, and a passion for driving modern infrastructure practices in a secure and scalable way.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Automate deployment, configuration, and maintenance of OpenShift clusters using CI/CD pipelines.
  • Develop and implement custom automation solutions to improve infrastructure reliability and developer efficiency.
  • Review and optimize new cluster configurations and deployment pipelines to ensure stability and performance.
  • Lead efforts in infrastructure automation and continuous deployment in a private virtualized environment.
  • Research, evaluate, and recommend upgrades, enhancements, and new tools to maintain optimal system performance.
  • Collaborate with Technology management and other engineering teams to design and implement scalable, resilient technical solutions.
  • Create and maintain comprehensive documentation for infrastructure components, services, and procedures.
  • Provide technical leadership, coaching, and mentorship to junior engineers and technical staff.
  • Engage with vendors and external support resources as needed for platform support and troubleshooting.
  • Promote and enforce infrastructure best practices, security standards, and operational excellence.
  • Stay informed about trends, best practices, and emerging technologies in financial services and DevOps/Cloud engineering.

Required Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 8 years of combined education and professional experience in IT Infrastructure or Systems Engineering.
  • Strong knowledge of system development lifecycles, IT service management (ITSM), and systems design.
  • Proven experience managing container platforms at scale using OpenShift and/or Kubernetes.
  • Deep understanding of Linux systems, especially around tuning, security, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency in scripting with Python, Bash, or Perl.
  • Experience building and deploying Ansible playbooks or Terraform (HCL) for infrastructure automation.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD practices and tools, preferably in private cloud environments.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, or related technical field.
  • 8+ years of hands-on engineering experience with infrastructure design, automation, and systems development.
  • Strong understanding of containerization tools including Podman/Docker and related build pipelines.
  • Hands-on experience with GitOps workflows using ArgoCD to manage Kubernetes clusters at scale.
  • Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Azure, specifically Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS) and Azure Red Hat OpenShift (ARO).
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; able to convey technical information to both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Strong problem-solving skills with a proactive mindset and attention to detail.
