Qualifications
- 5 7 years of experience in the implementation, maintenance, and analysis of data center facilities, hardware, communications infrastructure, strategies, tools, and troubleshooting techniques.
- Background in enterprise data center facilities and infrastructure environments such as PDUs, RPPs, network, and SAN infrastructures.
- In-depth knowledge of complex, enterprise-class inter-networked environments involving a combination of switched/routed/shared Ethernet, TwinAx (100GigE, 25GigE, 10GigE, GigE, 100M, 10M), token ring, SAN, and wide area connectivity.
- Strong understanding of WAN technologies (OC-x, DS-x), subnetting, and TCP/IP protocols.
- Extensive experience with trouble ticketing systems, change control, project processes, and associated tools.
- Analytical Problem-Solving: Proven logical problem-solving skills with extensive experience in high-stakes system troubleshooting, data center facility management, and telecommunications.
- Project management experience.
- Knowledge of the financial services industry is a plus.
- Excellent communication and writing skills.
Responsibilities
- Install, de-install, and relocate distributed systems and network hardware (CSUs, DSUs, routers, switches, encryptors, firewalls, etc.) in the Americas Data Centers within internal service-level mandates.
- Install, de-install, extend, relocate, and test all carrier circuits to network hardware.
- Install, de-install, and relocate patch cabling for systems and network hardware.
- Install, de-install, and relocate all data center hardware.
- Coordinate cabinet power, circuit, and patch infrastructure installations with facilities, electrical, and communications vendors.
- Coordinate network component configurations and SAN cabling infrastructure installations.
- Manage network ports and all consumable items (cables, labels, tie wraps, rail kits, etc.).
- Maintain the integrity of data center facilities, systems, and communications environments through housekeeping and operational best practices.
- Provide hands-on Level 2 break/fix support for data center systems and communications environments.
- Coordinate and approve data center infrastructure change controls.
- Ensure compliance with data center standards, policies, and processes for all non-DCSD-sponsored changes.
- Perform required compliance activities.
- Produce network consumables updates and contribute to weekly management reports.
- Coordinate activities supporting all projects and technical requests within the Americas Data Centers.
- Manage CTI-approved third-party vendors in support of local/regional service commitments and adherence to corporate and CTI standards.
- Provide clear, detailed turnover to next-shift workers for operational continuity.
Media Management Duties
- Perform daily tape ejects to increase current-day processing capacity.
- Monitor tape-related console messages and manage daily ad-hoc tape/job requests and scratch activity.
- Manage all physical and electronic vaulting activity and ensure proper documentation for tape destruction processes.
- Monitor scratch levels (via display screens, online libraries, or visual panels) and replace any damaged media.
- Conduct minor to moderate problem determination with global command centers and on-site hardware teams.
- Perform daily health checks on all libraries, including virtual subsystems, grid clusters, and system logs.
- Assist as required to ensure the highest level of customer satisfaction.
- Respond to automated trouble tickets under the direction of Global Command Centers.
- Act as media liaison between on-site hardware teams and customer engineers (CEs).
- Initiate, schedule, coordinate, and approve media management change controls.
- Support all physical off-site vaulting activities and manage all physical media movement with proper tracking.
- Support site and application-specific disaster recovery/COB tests and exercises.
- Follow best practices for degaussing and wiping of hard drives; perform random audit checks and sampling.
- Stay current with all global procedures and provide feedback when appropriate.
- Participate in projects related to tape/media and in reconciliation/QA efforts (e.g., year-end, physical inventory, vertices, hard drive inventory).
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
