ROLE: Cost Estimator (Steel Industry, Steel Fabrication Processes & Techniques, Engineering, Construction Management, Welding, Constructability) in Little Rock, AR

Job Description:

The ideal candidate will be responsible for appropriately evaluating the cost of a project, and evaluating the cost to take on that project. The candidate will be familiar with our competitive advantages as an organization and will be able to communicate those to our benefit throughout the bidding process.

Must-Haves Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a transferable technical field.
  • 3 + years of related experience in steel industry.
  • Familiar with steel fabrication processes and techniques and advanced knowledge of construction elements. (welding and constructability)
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret complex design documents and specifications.
  • Experience with Excel and preliminary connection design.

Responsibilities:

  • Producing cost estimates and proposals for structural steel bid projects and cost estimates for change orders on awarded projects.
  • Develop, implement, participate in and monitor a plan for completing a material and labor take-off from structural and architectural design drawings.
  • Take responsibility for complex projects and routinely functions as the estimate team leader.
  • Review and verify completeness and distribute project drawings and specifications to estimators assigned to the project.
  • Maintains and manages well-developed subcontractor/supplier relationships.
  • Obtain pricing for specialty items not contained in the estimating software database.
  • Generate estimate summaries and cost recap sheets in Excel.
  • Develop preliminary connection design based upon member capacities and loads provided.
  • Work with the Production Department to review and update estimating standards.
  • Work overtime when required to make required bid dates.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Architecture or a transferable technical field.
  • 3 + years of related experience in steel industry.
  • Familiar with steel fabrication processes and techniques and advanced knowledge of construction elements. (welding and constructability)
  • Able to read, analyze and interpret complex design documents and specifications.
  • Ability to manage time well and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Works well with a team
  • Experience with Excel and preliminary connection design.
