Job Description:

Requirement/Must Have:

  • 10+ years of experience as a SQL Server DBA.
  • Minimum 4+ years of hands-on experience with Azure SQL.
  • Experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure VMs.
  • Strong T-SQL, query tuning, indexing strategies, and execution plan analysis.
  • Hands-on experience with Infrastructure-as-Code tools (e.g., Terraform, Azure DevOps).
  • In-depth knowledge of Azure networking, AAD, monitoring, and cost management related to databases.
  • Expertise in high availability and disaster recovery solutions (geo-replication, failover groups, AlwaysOn AGs).
  • Familiarity with DevOps and automation (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, PowerShell).

Experience:

  • Extensive experience in SQL Server DBA roles with recent Azure SQL experience.
  • Operational experience with performance tuning, monitoring, backup, and DR.
  • Proven ability to mentor junior engineers and participate in strategic planning.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Architect, build, and deploy Azure SQL solutions.
  • Recommend and implement best-fit database services.
  • Lead automation of database builds and deployments.
  • Monitor and maintain database health, storage, and performance.
  • Conduct root cause analysis and implement permanent fixes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams on planning and development.
  • Define and enforce database security, compliance, and encryption policies.
  • Drive long-term database strategies and mentor junior team members.

Should Have:

  • Ability to present technical recommendations and improvement plans.
  • Experience with capacity planning and cost optimization.
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills.

Skills:

  • Azure SQL (PaaS/IaaS), T-SQL, Infrastructure-as-Code, Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions.
  • Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, PowerShell.
  • High Availability / Disaster Recovery (HA/DR) technologies.
  • Azure Active Directory, Azure networking.

Qualification and Education:

  • Microsoft Azure Certifications (DP-300, AZ-104, AZ-305) preferred.

Nice to Have:

  • Experience with hybrid cloud/on-prem database environments.
  • Familiarity with PostgreSQL, Cosmos DB, or other cloud-native data platforms.
  • Participation in architecture review boards and technical proposal preparation.
