Location: Southlake, TX (hybrid - 4 days/week onsite - Mon-Thursday)
Alternate Work Location: Ann Arbor, MI
Duration: 12-month contract
About the Role
Join a high-performing team working on an industry-leading trading platform. As a Senior Java Developer in the Performance Engineering team, you will contribute to the design and development of tools and systems that simulate user scenarios, identify performance bottlenecks, and enhance system scalability. You'll work across the full stack-from native client-side applications to mobile and services gateways-collaborating closely with QA, product, and support teams.

About the Role

As a Senior Java Developer in the Performance Engineering team, you will contribute to the design and development of tools and systems that simulate user scenarios, identify performance bottlenecks, and enhance system scalability. You'll work across the full stack-from native client-side applications to mobile and services gateways-collaborating closely with QA, product, and support teams.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with QA to run performance tests and identify code-level bottlenecks.
- Design and develop tools for simulating user scenarios and creating mock services.
- Analyze system architecture to propose scalable solutions.
- Collect and analyze key performance metrics.
- Suggest and implement performance enhancements on both client and server sides.
- Develop monitoring solutions for production environments.
- Define and execute a performance and scalability roadmap.
- Quickly adapt to changing environments and complex codebases.
- Provide technical analysis and solutions aligned with business objectives.
- Manage performance environments and understand hardware implications.
Minimum Qualifications
- 5+ years of experience in Java, J2EE (client and server-side), Spring Framework, Spring Boot, and Spring Cloud.
- Strong background in distributed systems, real-time processing, and relational databases.
- Experience with high-volume desktop trading systems.
- Proficiency in SQL and Linux shell scripting.
- Deep understanding of concurrency, multi-threading, data structures, algorithms, and design patterns.
- Experience diagnosing JVM issues (e.g., thread dumps, garbage collection).
- Familiarity with resiliency patterns (Circuit Breakers, Load Balancers, Failover).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- DevOps and build automation experience.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Knowledge of performance testing theory and key metrics.
- Experience in the Financial Services industry is strongly preferred.
- Detail-oriented with a self-starting attitude.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with custom tooling and performance simulation.
- Understanding of hardware's role in performance environments.
- Ability to work independently and make effective decisions in ambiguous situations.
