Job Details

SpaceX was founded under the belief that a future where humanity is out exploring the stars is fundamentally more exciting than one where we are not. Today SpaceX is actively developing the technologies to make this possible, with the ultimate goal of enabling human life on Mars.

FULL STACK PROPULSION SOFTWARE ENGINEER, DATA ANALYSIS (RAPTOR)

The Raptor Systems Modeling and Control Team is responsible for the power-balance, optimal control, and calibration of one of the worlds most prolific and advanced rocket engines. In addition to this we aid in root cause analysis for anomaly resolution, providing data and model driven insights supporting operations and components teams in high-consequence decision making. Our tools and analysis are relied upon day-in-and-day-out to evaluate the safety and optimality of flight trajectories. With hundreds of engines, hundreds of simulations, and hundreds of hotfire operations, the work we do impacts both the engine design process and operation of every single mission and engine test. In this role you will work with brilliant, passionate engineers to develop rapid, seamless processes to translate engine test data into accurate predictions of future performance for the most reliable and cutting-edge rocket engines in the world.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Develop well-architected highly reliable and available web applications and data pipelines that are used to clean, curate, explore, and understand raptor engine performance data across hundreds of units and operations
  • Participate in and lead architecture, design, and code reviews.
  • Frontend application development: deliver well-tested, easy-to-use, and maintainable JavaScript/TypeScript, HTML, and CSS code from the ground up
  • Backend development: deliver well-tested, performant, and maintainable Python, C#/.NET and Java code from the ground up
  • Develop tools to aid in mission planning and design and vet proposed mission profiles against engine history and design to maximize performance and reliability
  • Develop data trending and analysis portals to make sense of the rich engine performance dataset, present that data to the broader raptor engineering community in a comprehensible and explorable way to enact improvements to manufacturing and engine hardware design
  • Assist with anomaly resolution and work directly with engineers of every raptor sub-component to develop tools to improve time-to-insight
  • Collaborate with engineers across the company to extend and improve interoperability among existing tools

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, engineering, or a STEM discipline OR 3+ years of professional experience building full-stack software in lieu of a degree
  • 1+ years of experience building full-stack software

PREFERRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE
  • 2+ years of full stack web development experience
  • Data driven analysis of complex systems
  • Experience with data management, analysis, and presentation techniques
  • Programming experience in Python, C#, .NET, Go, Scala, Java, or similar object-oriented language
  • Frontend experience in Angular, React, or a similar JavaScript framework
  • Production experience with infrastructure tools such as Docker and Kubernetes
  • Experience with version control, continuous integration, and continuous delivery systems
