About the role:

As a Mechanical Engineering Thermal-Hydraulic intern, you will support thermal-hydraulic analysis activities of nuclear fuel and related components.

You will report to the Thermal-Hydraulic and Seismic Engineering and Design and Support Manager and be located at our Columbia location. This is a paid full-time hybrid summer position.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Support fuel assembly and components thermal-hydraulic testing activities for nuclear fuel development projects
  • Develop knowledge of nuclear steam supply systems, fuel assembly mechanical design, and structure of reactor core internals
  • Develop knowledge of fluid Mechanics in reactors, fuel assembly and fuel rod vibration, heat transfer in reactors and core components, fretting wear, and departure from nucleate boiling thermal analysis
  • Work with internal departments to support nuclear fuel projects

Qualifications:
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering with a focus in thermal hydraulics
  • Minimum GPA of 3.0
  • Completed Sophomore year of college
  • Experience in analysis and testing
  • Completed coursework in Thermodynamics, Heat Transfer, Fluid Mechanics or equivalent classes
  • Experience with MATLAB, Linux, LabVIEW

We are committed to transparency and equity in all of our people practices. The hourly rate for this position, which is dependent upon experience, qualifications and skills, is estimated to be $22.69 to $27.50 per hour.
