Job Overview:
The Performance Engineer III is responsible for conducting a wide range of quality control tests and analyses to ensure that software meets or exceeds specified standards and end-user requirements. This role also involves monitoring the performance of production systems and providing guidance to develop and deploy high-performing applications and systems. The Performance Engineer III collaborates with various teams to ensure optimal performance and reliability of applications.

Responsibilities:
  • Collaborate with application development teams to mitigate performance bottlenecks throughout the application stack.
  • Recommend improvements to the architecture and deployment of applications under test.
  • Integrate testing best practices into the application development lifecycle to reduce friction and identify potential issues early.
  • Participate in the Performance Engineering Community of Practice to drive standardization and innovation.
  • Develop testing and monitoring approaches in collaboration with other engineers.
  • Focus on assurance in areas such as error rates, response times, and infrastructure impact.
  • Design, script, configure, and run performance tests to validate production readiness of software applications and infrastructure.
  • Condition test data to simulate test scenarios effectively.
  • Support testing needs for new projects, infrastructure upgrades, and application enhancements.
  • Diagnose, track, and manage performance issues to resolution.
  • Utilize dashboards for efficient monitoring of applications and systems in production environments.
  • Provide summaries and assessments of application performance, emphasizing trends over time.
  • Conduct in-depth analysis of data when trends or anomalies are identified.
  • Collaborate with development teams during story design to ensure performant application features.
  • Participate in Program Increment Planning, Sprint Planning, and Daily Standup meetings.
  • Provide leadership and mentorship to a team of performance engineers.
  • Lead or participate in cross-organizational initiatives.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Five (5) years of experience as a Performance Engineer or in a related role with high-traffic, large-scale distributed systems.
  • One (1) year of experience in software application development or test automation.

Preferences:
  • Familiarity with application architecture, design, capacity planning, and performance best practices.
  • Experience with SQL, C, C++, C#, or Java programming, and automated testing methodologies.
  • Knowledge of container technologies and cloud environments.
  • Experience with open-source load testing tools like Apache JMeter and infrastructure monitoring tools like Splunk.
  • Understanding of mobile app and web technology stacks (HTTP, REST, HTML, JavaScript, CSS).
  • Familiarity with SQL/NoSQL databases, including querying, profiling, and performance tuning.
  • Experience with cloud DevOps tools such as Kubernetes.

Skills and Competencies:
  • Ability to analyze multi-tiered systems and track data flow throughout the application stack.
  • Effective communication and leadership skills.
  • Experience with monitoring tools like Splunk and frameworks such as Fiddler, Dynatrace, and JMeter.
  • Hands-on experience with load testing tools like HP LoadRunner.
  • Knowledge of application scalability and performance tuning for web-based and n-tier systems.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Understanding of performance analysis and testing processes.

Pay Range: $60 - $65

The specific compensation for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role as well as the cost of labor in the market; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment.
