Akaamai CDN Engineer (Hybrid Dallas, TX)
Location: Dallas, TX (Hybrid 3 dayz onsite, 2 remote)
Contract Length: 6 months (with ongoing renewals)
Start Date: ASAP
Pay Range: $55-65/hr
About the Role:
- We re seeking a Senior Akaamai CDN Engineer to take full ownership of content delivery, caching, and web performance optimization across multiple large-scale, customer-facing applications.
- In this role, you ll act as the Akaamai subject matter expert (SME) leading the design, configuration, and performance tuning of CDN, WAF, and Bot Manager services. You ll partner closely with application developers, integration teams, and security engineers to drive faster, more reliable, and more secure digital experiences for millions of users.
- This is a high-impact position within a large enterprise currently expanding its Akaamai CDN and WAF capabilities. You ll be joining at a pivotal time, helping shape caching strategies, optimize traffic flows, and enhance application security posture across a growing portfolio of web assets.
What You ll Do:
- Lead configuration, optimization, and maintenance of Akaamai CDN, WAF, and Bot Manager for customer-facing applications.
- Improve web and API performance by designing effective caching strategies and reducing latency.
- Integrate new applications and services into Akaamai, validating configurations and security policies.
- Monitor and analyze traffic, cache hits/misses, and performance metrics using Akaamai Control Center, Ion, GTM, and mPulse.
- Troubleshoot delivery and performance issues across regions and coordinate solutions with app and DevOps teams.
- Automate Akaamai configuration changes using APIs, CLI tools, Python, Bash, or Terraform.
- Collaborate with developers and architects to align CDN and WAF strategies with business and application requirements.
- Support bot management and CAPTCHA configuration tuning to improve resilience against malicious traffic.
- Serve as the technical lead and advisor for all Akaamai-related projects within the organization.
Must-Haves:
- 5+ years of hands-on experience with Akaamai CDN, WAF, and Bot Manager in production environments.
- Proven expertise in caching configuration, web performance tuning, and traffic management.
- Strong understanding of API security, latency troubleshooting, and application delivery optimization.
- Experience integrating Akaamai with customer-facing web applications and APIs.
- Proficiency with Akaamai tools such as Ion, mPulse, GTM, and Control Center.
- Collaborative mindset with the ability to bridge application development and infrastructure teams.
- Strong ownership and communication skills capable of functioning as the Akaamai SME.
Nice-to-Haves:
- Experience automating Akaamai configurations via APIs, Terraform, or scripting (Python/Bash).
- Knowledge of bot management and CAPTCHA tuning.
- Familiarity with TypeScript or JavaScript to coordinate with frontend developers.
- Experience in utilities, energy, or other high-traffic web environments.
- Prior technical lead or mentorship experience.
