Job Title: Senior Control Systems Engineer
Location: Everett, WA
Type: Contract (yearlong)
Compensation: $52 - $85 hourly
Contractor Work Model: Onsite (Local candidates only)
System One is seeking a highly motivated Controls System Engineer for a long-term contract role on-site in Everett, WA. In this role you will work with the Lead I&C Engineer to provide expertise and support to our client's testing activities. Responsibilities will include instrument and control system design, EPICS integration, and support of commissioning activities. The strongest candidates will also have experience in laboratory experimentation, designing control systems and networks for specialized equipment under hazardous conditions, and implementing industrial communication standards for reliable multi-node test fixture operation.

Responsibilities
- Programming /commissioning/troubleshooting PLC and HMI across multiple platforms and control systems in a R&D test environment
- Work with IT to develop and maintain an OT network for control systems
- Interface existing and new lab equipment into an EPICS environment
- Maintain, upgrade, and provide guidance on expansion of an EPICS based controls environment
- Provide best practice guidance for data acquisition and data retention. Familiarity with ASME NQA-1 standards a plus
- Support the Responsible Test Engineer during shakedown and testing of control systems in an R&D environment
- Review and revise procedures to align with HMI implementation in consultation with system operators and designers
- Support continuous learning and application of nuclear industry best practices to maintain the highest quality of engineering design and proactively identify process change/enhancement opportunities
- Implement cybersecurity and network best practices in industrial control environments
- Demonstrate exemplary safety practices and foster a culture of safety in a testing environment
Key Qualifications and Skills
- B.S. degree in Controls, Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering or equivalent and 3+ years of relevant experience; advanced degree a plus.
- Experience in designing, developing, and maintaining control systems using EPICS (Base, IOC development, database records, CS-studio screens, etc.).
- Experience in design and application of experimental hardware, instrumentation, and engineering laboratory or industry best practices.
- Experience with PLCs such as Siemens, Beckhoff, NI and other control hardware, and their programming and integration with EPICS.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, C++, ST, and Ladder logic
- Experience developing and deploying EPICS applications on Linux platforms, including shell scripting and system configuration.
- Experience with data acquisition and controls for complex engineering systems with many I/O signals from highly varied sensors and instruments
- Proficiency with protocols such as Modbus, RS-232/485, Ethernet, EtherCat and experience integrating them in an industrial or scientific control environments.
- Experience designing OT and control systems networks to allow for flexible experimental setups
- Ability to participate in a multi-disciplinary team of engineers, scientists and technicians with demonstrated results
- Strong analytical/problem solving skills, creative thinker
- Demonstrated ability to work on multiple tasks concurrently during a given work week
- Ability to handle projects that include multiple objectives and ability to resolve conflicts between objectives.
- Excellent writing and communication skills
- Ability to work independently to solve challenging problems and provide recommendations in a timely manner
