A well-established North American manufacturer in the aerospace and industrial markets is seeking an experienced Application Developer to support and enhance its internal systems. This role involves collaborating closely with end users to gather requirements, troubleshoot application issues, and design or modify software solutions using RPG/ILE, CLP, and SQL/400 on AS400 or I5 platforms. Candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities. Occasional travel may be required based on project needs.

responsibilities:
- Collaborate with users to gather requirements for changes or modifications to existing applications, initiated through internal change requests.
- Provide on-call support and resolve issues related to computer applications, with support rotating on a weekly basis among the team.
- Troubleshoot programming and user-related errors, offering timely resolutions that may involve code changes or data restoration.
- Conduct needs analysis by working with users to understand their workflows and identify how information systems can be optimized, translating these needs into specifications for software modifications or development.
- Design, develop, implement, and test new software systems, ensuring seamless integration with existing applications.
- Create and maintain detailed documentation to allow other developers to continue system operations in the absence of the original programmer.
- Develop technical manuals, user guides, and reference materials, while providing training to users on any new features or systems implemented.
- Occasional travel may be required depending on project scope and requirements.
qualifications:
- A 2-4 year degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- At least 2 years of recent experience in application development on AS400 or I5 platforms, specifically using RPG/ILE, CLP, and SQL/400 programming languages.
