Job Description

Please Note:This position will include supporting our US Federal/Public Sector customers.

"This position requires passing a ServiceNow background screening, USFedPASS (US Federal Personnel Authorization Screening Standards). This includes a credit check, criminal/misdemeanor check and taking a drug test. Any employment is contingent upon passing the screening.

As a Staff Network Security Engineer on the Network Security Team, you will focus on designing and engineering secure networking solutions to support ServiceNow's production environments, including U.S. Federal cloud platforms. You'll work with modern firewall platforms, VPN solutions, and security automation tools to enhance our global network posture. You'll contribute to implementation decisions, drive improvements in infrastructure security, and collaborate closely with other infrastructure and security teams to ensure scalable and compliant designs.

What you get to do in this role:
  • Design and implement network security controls including firewall policies, segmentation, and access models
  • Engineer and support VPN configurations for internal and customer use cases
  • Develop DDoS mitigation strategies and implement protection across edge and cloud environments
  • Own and manage firewalls, including policy lifecycle and operational health
  • Build and improve automation for security infrastructure using Ansible, Python, or similar tools
  • Participate in change implementations and ensure safe deployment of network security updates
  • Support incident response efforts with technical analysis and corrective design changes
  • Contribute to internal standards documentation, implementation guides, and peer reviews
  • Collaborate with engineers across Network Engineering, Cloud, and Security teams on secure network solutions

Qualifications

To be successful in this role you have:
  • 6+ years of hands-on experience in network security engineering
  • Deep technical skills with:
    • Next-Generation Firewalls - Palo Alto PAN-OS and Fortinet FortiOS
    • Prisma Access or Prisma SD-WAN
    • VPN technologies - IPsec, SSL VPNs, dynamic routing over VPN
    • Routing protocols - BGP, OSPF, MPLS
    • TCP/IP protocol stack, packet-level diagnostics, IPv4/IPv6
  • Comfortable with:
    • Linux system administration and command-line troubleshooting
    • Cisco and Juniper routers and switches
    • Traffic analysis tools (Wireshark, tcpdump, etc.)
    • Vulnerability management platforms and interpreting scan results
  • Experience with automation and scripting, ideally in Python or Ansible
  • Strong collaboration and communication skills, especially in distributed team environments
  • Ability to work independently on technical problems and deliver well-documented solutions

GCS-23

For positions in this location, we offer a base pay of $129,300 - $226,300, plus equity (when applicable), variable/incentive compensation and benefits. Sales positions generally offer a competitive On Target Earnings (OTE) incentive compensation structure. Please note that the base pay shown is a guideline, and individual total compensation will vary based on factors such as qualifications, skill level, competencies, and work location. We also offer health plans, including flexible spending accounts, a 401(k) Plan with company match, ESPP, matching donations, a flexible time away plan and family leave programs. Compensation is based on the geographic location in which the role is located and is subject to change based on work location.
