Description

We are looking for an experienced Mainframe Systems Administrator to join our team in West Des Moines, Iowa. This contract-to-permanent position offers an exciting opportunity to work in the life insurance industry, supporting and optimizing mainframe systems. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mainframe environments and a strong background in programming and system management. THIS ROLE CAN BE REMOTE IN THE SURROUNDING STATES OF IOWA

Responsibilities:

Manage and maintain mainframe systems to ensure optimal performance and reliability.

Develop, test, and implement COBOL programs to support organizational needs.

Administer and configure mainframe technologies, including z/OS and CICS environments.

Monitor and resolve system issues, ensuring minimal downtime and effective troubleshooting.

Write and maintain JCL scripts for batch processing and system operations.

Collaborate with cross-functional teams to enhance system capabilities and implement new features.

Utilize CA-7 software to schedule and manage job workflows efficiently.

Perform system upgrades and patches to maintain security and functionality.

Analyze system performance metrics to identify areas for improvement.

Document procedures and provide training for team members on mainframe operations.

Requirements

Minimum of 7 years of experience working with mainframe systems and programming.
Proficiency in COBOL across all versions, with strong programming skills.
Hands-on experience with IBM mainframe environments and technologies.
In-depth knowledge of CICS and z/OS systems.
Expertise in JCL scripting and MVS JCL operations.
Familiarity with CA-7 software for job scheduling and workflow management.
Understanding of assembler language and its application in mainframe systems.
Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work collaboratively in a team environment.
