Job Details
* The Senior Data Engineer/Architect will be responsible for leading the design, strategy, and governance of enterprise-scale database and data integration solutions. This role requires deep technical expertise in data architecture, cloud transformation, governance frameworks, and database security. The Data Engineer/Architect will collaborate with business stakeholders, technical teams, and leadership to drive modernization initiatives, establish standards, and ensure compliance with federal and organizational requirements.
Basic Qualifications: Minimum knowledge, skills, abilities needed.
* 8+ years of progressive experience in database architecture, data engineering, or related technical roles.
* Proven experience leading enterprise-scale database transformation projects, including vendor selection, implementation, and technology evaluation.
* Demonstrated ability to facilitate technical discussions and present compelling recommendations to senior leadership.
* Extensive experience designing enterprise data integration strategies across multiple business units and data sources.
* Expert-level knowledge of hybrid database architectures, including both on-premises and cloud-native (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform) environments.
* Strong experience architecting scalable data platforms (data lakes, data warehouses, analytics systems).
* Deep understanding of database security frameworks and FISMA compliance requirements, including ATO and continuous monitoring processes.
* Knowledge of data privacy regulations (HIPAA, GDPR, CCPA, etc.) and implementation of compliant governance programs.
* Track record of supporting security audits, remediation efforts, and risk management initiatives.
* Hands-on experience in database consolidation, optimization, modernization, and cloud migration projects.
Architecture and Strategy
* Design enterprise database and data architectures, evaluating emerging technologies for fit and value.
* Develop enterprise data integration strategies and establish data quality standards.
* Facilitate technical discussions and architecture reviews across cross-functional teams.
* Plan and lead database consolidation, optimization, and technology migration initiatives.
* Develop strategies and roadmaps to operationalize data governance, including metadata management, data lineage, stewardship, and quality frameworks.
Security and Compliance Leadership
* Design and implement database security frameworks aligned with FISMA and other federal compliance requirements.
* Architect data privacy and protection strategies for highly regulated environments.
* Support organizational compliance efforts, including audit preparation, documentation, and remediation activities.
* Ensure continuous monitoring, risk management, and adherence to data protection regulations.
Technical Expertise
* Provide technical guidance and leadership on database and integration solutions.
* Collaborate with business stakeholders to translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
* Present architectural strategies, roadmaps, and recommendations to senior leadership.
* Establish and enforce database standards, governance processes, and best practices.
* Drive innovation and scalability across enterprise data platforms, including data lakes, data warehouses, and analytics environments.
* Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Public Trust clearance
Preferred Qualifications: Candidates with these skills will be given preferential consideration.
* Bachelor s or Master s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or related field.
* Certifications such as AWS Certified Data Analytics, AWS Database Specialty, Azure Data Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
* Experience working in federal, healthcare, or financial sectors with regulated data environments.
* Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
* Familiarity with Agile and DevSecOps methodologies for database and data engineering projects.
