Position Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced Structural Engineer to lead analysis and testing efforts for advanced aerospace and mechanical systems. This role involves performing structural analysis using both closed-form and finite element methods, supporting environmental testing, and collaborating across multidisciplinary teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Conduct structural analysis on spacecraft, instruments, payloads, optics, mechanisms, and ground support equipment.
- Apply static, modal, buckling, and frequency response techniques using tools like Nastran.
- Develop loads and environmental conditions for components and systems.
- Support and execute structural and environmental testing (static, modal, acoustic, shock, vibration).
- Document and report findings from analysis and testing activities.
- Collaborate effectively across departments and business units.
- Maintain a consistent on-site presence and support inter-campus travel as needed.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Work Environment
- Work is performed in office, lab, cleanroom, production floor, or outdoor settings.
- May require use of protective equipment in certain environments.
- Occasional travel between facilities and in varying weather conditions.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering or a related technical field plus 6+ years of relevant experience.
- Advanced degrees (Master's or Ph.D.) may substitute for up to 4 years of experience.
- Proficiency in Nastran for static, modal, buckling, and frequency response analysis.
- Strong understanding of structural analysis principles including bolted/bonded joints, welds, electronics, antennas, fracture, and fatigue.
- Familiarity with materials such as composites, ceramics, and high-temperature alloys.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and projects simultaneously.
- Excellent communication and teamwork skills.
Preferred Skills
- Master of Science in a structures-related field.
- Experience with software tools such as Simcenter, FEMAP, LS-Dyna, Abaqus, MATLAB, Adams, SolidWorks, Python.
- Knowledge of FEM applications including explicit, transient, nonlinear, multibody dynamics, line of sight, and jitter.
- Experience in aerospace or high-tech manufacturing environments.
