Job Title: Linux Systems Administrator
Location: Remote
Contract Duration: 6 Months (Possible Extension)
Position Overview: We are looking for an experienced Linux Systems Administrator to join on a 6-month remote contract. This role will involve administering, maintaining, and optimizing Linux-based systems across multiple distributions. The ideal candidate will have strong troubleshooting skills, a knack for automation, and the ability to enhance system performance in production environments.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical expertise and troubleshooting for Linux system operations, ensuring high availability and performance.
Install, configure, upgrade, and maintain Linux-based systems (Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, SuSE).
Manage and support Linux/UNIX applications including software tracking, license compliance, backup and recovery of configurations, and user data files.
Apply modifications and patches to system software to improve performance or resolve functional issues.
Perform root cause analysis and resolve incidents involving server hardware, OS, or software-related problems.
Collaborate with IT teams to support system integration, security, and monitoring.
Maintain system documentation, configuration standards, and operational procedures.
Support virtualized environments using VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
3+ years of experience as a Linux Systems Administrator.
Proficiency in administering multiple Linux distributions (e.g., Red Hat, Ubuntu, CentOS, Debian, SuSE).
Experience with backup/recovery tools, system performance tuning, and automation.
Strong troubleshooting skills for server hardware, OS, and application-level issues.
Familiarity with scripting languages (e.g., Bash, Python) for automation tasks.
Hands-on experience with VMware and/or Microsoft Hyper-V virtualization platforms.
Understanding of system security, user permissions, and secure Linux administration best practices.
Preferred Qualifications:
Red Hat Certified System Administrator (RHCSA) or equivalent certification.
Experience with configuration management tools (e.g., Ansible, Puppet, Chef).
Exposure to cloud platforms (AWS, Azure) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Familiarity with monitoring tools such as Nagios, Zabbix, or Prometheus.
