The Component Engineer is responsible for managing the life cycle of electronic components used on the avionics, displays, radios, and other products manufactured by Collins Aerospace. Component Engineers support engineering, supply chain, manufacturing, quality, sourcing, and other groups within Collins Aerospace. Specific responsibilities can include consultation with design engineering on part selection, qualification of components, performing root cause investigation and corrective action implementation, addressing part shortages and obsolescence, and technology roadmap management.

Remote: Employees who are working in Remote roles* will work primarily offsite (from home). An employee may be expected to travel to the site location as needed.
*This position is remote; however, if you live within a reasonable commute of a Collins site with other colleagues you interact with, your manager will discuss whether there is a degree of onsite presence associated with this role
The salary range for this role is 101,000 USD - 203,000 USD. The salary range provided is a good faith estimate representative of all experience levels. RTX considers several factors when extending an offer, including but not limited to, the role, function and associated responsibilities, a candidate's work experience, location, education/training, and key skills.
Hired applicants may be eligible for benefits, including but not limited to, medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short-term disability, long-term disability, 401(k) match, flexible spending accounts, flexible work schedules, employee assistance program, Employee Scholar Program, parental leave, paid time off, and holidays. Specific benefits are dependent upon the specific business unit as well as whether or not the position is covered by a collective-bargaining agreement.

What You Will Do:
- Establish preferred technologies, sources of supply, and acceptance criteria.
- Documentation and release of components, processes, technology roadmaps, and design guidelines.
- Perform Failure and Root Cause Analysis of high complexity and implement corrective actions.
- Teaches and mentors less experienced engineers in failure analysis and root cause investigation techniques.
- Provide technical assistance with material verification resolution, specification or drawing exceptions, supplier issues, and manufacturing related issues. Identify, evaluate, and recommend new components and manufacturers for new product design programs and for improving existing manufacturing process yields.
- Connects supply base with internal customers to develop optimal design solutions.
- Analyze parametric data, preference codes, and obsolescence prediction data for components.
- General technical support including activities associated with Part Shortage Resolution, Obsolescence Management, Source Selection, Data Collection, and Data Analysis.
- Actively contribute to and participate in projects as a team member or expert on call. Lead moderate sized projects to solve team or department level issues or process improvements.
- Proactively identifies improvement opportunities and drives activity to make necessary changes.
- Teach and mentor less experienced engineers on the team.
- Models ideal Component Engineer behaviors and is a positive influence on others.
- Must be willing and able to travel up to 10% of the time
Qualifications You Must Have:
- Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 8 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 5 years of experience
- 5+ years working with electrical components (i.e. memory, semiconductors, capacitors, resistors, etc)
- 2+ years experience providing customer service to both technical and non-technical individuals.
Qualifications We Prefer:
- Preferred candidate will have a B.S. in Electrical Engineering
- Experience with obsolescence and bill of material health
