The COMET contract provides overall management and implementation of ground systems capabilities, flight hardware processing, and launch operations at NASA's Kennedy Space Center (KSC) in Florida. These tasks will support the International Space Station, Ground Systems Development and Operations, and the Space Launch System, Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle, and Launch Services programs.

This position provides software development support to the Command & Control Systems (C&C) directorate under the Consolidated Operations, Management, Engineering and Test Contract (COMET) at NASA Kennedy Space Center (KSC). The C&C organization is responsible for the design, development, sustaining, testing, and operations of the Control systems within the KSC Launch Control Center (LCC). Individuals will work in a dynamic team environment and will be responsible for software design, implementation, testing, user support, maintenance, and operations of software systems in support of the KSC Launch Control Center (LCC). The employee will be a part of the System Monitoring and Control (SMC) team working on the analysis, design, development, documentation, testing, deployment, and maintenance of software for the Launch Control System. The team is expected to work closely with other software developers, testers, analysts, architects, and engineers to exceed customer expectations.

Responsibilities

Areas of responsibility include, but are not limited to:
Exploring new ideas and developing actionable solutions to software delivery pipeline challenges
Clearly communicate concepts, ideas and accomplishment to peers and leadership
Utilize CMMI compliant processes to develop, modify and maintain software source code and applications
Prioritize and execute in a fast-paced environment with varying requirements and deadlines
Produce consistent positive results
Other duties as needed to aid in the success of the team

Qualifications - External

Bachelor of Science (BS) in Engineering or technical equivalent from an accredited institution.

Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or other related degree

Depending on the candidate's experience, requirements, and business needs, we reserve the right to consider candidates at any level for which this position has been advertised.
Will perform software development of respective system following design, coding standards and documented promotion and configuration management processes.
Will perform technical reviews of code, test, and design
May support technical meetings involving engineers of other disciplines, stakeholders, vendors, or management
Regular status updates will be required to show progress and annunciate roadblocks early
Must be able to think outside of the box, challenge the status quo, and continuously strive for improvements
Must be proficient in one or more of the following: o C++, Java, Bash, Python
Evaluate all safety critical software for both its safety as an independent component and as it contributes to the overall system safety Develop Software Safety Plans for project, program or facility
It is desired if the candidate had hands on experience with Opmantek, Jenkins, Code Collaborator, JAMA , Clear Quest
Perform other duties as assigned

Essential Functions

Physical Requirements
  • Will be required to climb stairs to access equipment for troubleshooting.
  • Climbing ladders and platforms will be necessary.
  • Will be required to wear hearing protection, eye protection and other associated personal protective equipment.
  • Position may involve extended periods of sitting or standing.
  • Physical requirements are sitting, walking, standing, extensive use of stairs, and access to remote structures.
  • Must be able to work in tight confined space areas.

Work Environment
  • All work must be completed in a safe manner in accordance with NASA and Company safety standards.
  • Will be required to work inside and outside throughout the test complex.
  • Position requires daily individual to travel to different areas on site.
  • Walking on uneven terrain including paved areas, gravel/rocks, and dirt/sand is required to access various locations on the facility.

Equipment and Machines
  • Cranes and other heavy equipment such as crane carriers, Hi-Rangers, man lift platforms, hydraulic lifts, spider staging, converter dollies, cargo lift trailers, and tractor/trailers.
  • Operate computer terminals, personal computers, and related computer peripheral equipment to maintain/adjust database logs and records, print documents and record work performance.
  • Personal computer, scanner, copy machine, telephone, laser printer, fax machine, and other office equipment including desk supplies.

Attendance
  • Work assignments are normally 8 hours shifts, 5 consecutive days per week.
  • Must be dependable and punctual.
  • Occasional overtime, sometimes with short notice, is required to meet demanding schedule

Other Essential Functions
  • If offered a position, proof of U.S. Citizenship or Legal Permanent Resident/ of the United States is required.
  • Needs to have clear, concise, and accurate communication skills.
  • Must have ability to work well with office staff and customer representatives.
  • Government security clearance may be required in the future.
  • Must be able to travel to support position requirements. This may include travel to and from customer location, which may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can be made for POV, if necessary.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a manner that fosters good relations with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
  • Must pass a federal background investigation.
  • Must comply with all "drug free workplace" requirements as mandated by directives issued by the appropriate federal contracting officer and the company, which requires drug testing for use of illegal drugs by employees in sensitive positions.
