Job Details

Position Summary:

We are seeking an experienced and motivated **Geotechnical Laboratory Technical Director** to oversee the daily operations of our accredited testing laboratory. This is a full-time, on-site position focused exclusively on laboratory testing. No travel or field work is required.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee laboratory operations, including equipment maintenance, calibration, and resource allocation.
  • Supervise soil and materials testing (Proctor, Atterberg Limits, grain size, triaxial, shear, permeability, consolidation, CBR).
  • Ensure compliance with ASTM, AASHTO, USACE, GDOT, and internal QA/QC standards.
  • Maintain accreditation and certifications; participate in AASHTO proficiency testing.
  • Train and evaluate laboratory staff; enforce safety protocols and quality assurance standards.
  • Prepare and review detailed laboratory reports using in-house software.
  • Interface with clients, providing technical guidance and support.
  • Lead internal/external audits, manage calibration schedules, and oversee lab instruments.
  • Build and maintain strong client relationships while ensuring excellent customer service.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in geotechnical or materials testing laboratories (3+ years in leadership preferred).
  • Bachelor s degree in Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Geology, Environmental Science, or related STEM field.
  • Professional Engineer (P.E.) required; P.G. license acceptable depending on experience.
  • NICET, ACI, or equivalent certifications are highly desirable.
  • Strong knowledge of ASTM, AASHTO, USACE, and GDOT procedures.
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and leadership skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office and ability to adapt to new software quickly.
